Gift for Big Brother When Baby Brother Arrives

I've seen some other requests similar to mine but they were mainly for girls and most suggested dolls for the older sibling as a gift from the baby. Well I am almost due with my 2nd boy and don't want to give my older son who is almost 4 a doll to play with. He is much more into trains and cars but have a 1000 of them and I want it to be a gift that is special. Does anyone have any suggestions of a neat or special gift to give a boy from his little brother??

What can I do next?

I am pregnant with my third boy, my oldest one is almost 4 yrs old so I'm thinking about the same thing!

I do want to recommend an I Spy Bag (I make and sell them online). They're super fun for kids, and would be a great idea to give it to him if he's ever going to be in the hospital waiting room to keep him quietly entertained. I can custom make one for him, I can even put the letters of his name in the bag. Here is the link to the I Spy Bags in my store:

I don't know if he is into books or not, but you can find a lot that are about big brothers. Good Luck on the second boy. You are going to be busy.

I'm expecting my 3rd and my oldest is a boy. One of the moms on this site suggested a kid digital camera so they can take pictures of the event and feel like their a part of it.... and what boy doesn't like a toy with buttons! We're getting my son the Fisher Price Kidtronics camera which is designed for preschoolershttp://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4966366

My oldest son was 5 when I had my second son. We found a "Big Brother" book at Babies R Us that is similar to a scrapbook/photobook/baby book. It had places for pictures of big brother and baby... places to write in about big brother and baby. This way he got to be involved with picking out the pictures and you get to write in what he wants to say. It is something that he can keep forever. He loved it and we still look at it every so often.

We just had our second baby boy a little over three months ago. His big brother was 21 months when he was born. We bought him a Big Brother t-shirt from Babystyle that he was really excited about because it was his "special" shirt. When he came up to visit me in the hospital, the baby gave him a present that was a Fisher-Price doctor's set. It came with a stethoscope, thermometer, syringe, blood-pressue monitor, band-aids, etc. He loved it because he was able to check-out Mommy just like the doctors and nurses were doing. We also let him give the new baby a check-up too, although under watchful eyes! :o)

What about a new computer game, or some other electronic device type thing (I know, very descriptive, huh :) It may net be sentimental, but it can be a very big boy thing to get, and best of all, it is a new toy that he can play with on his own while you attend to the baby! There are lots of fun games out there from a v smile to a leapster (our favorite!) as well as computer games. Good luck with this great time in your life! ~A.~

Not sure how different it is but I ordered a baby bear from Vermont Teddy Bears that had a onsie on and looked like a baby. My sonn still has it, he named it after his brother!

When I give a baby gift to someone who has an older child, I give the older child some sort of special coin (EX: Morgan silver dollar, proof set for the year of the siblings birthday, etc.) We like coins because we collect them and it is something shiny, pretty and can be valuable.

There are several coin dealers in the area if you are interested in getting a reference.

Congratulations! Susan

The best gift we gave our daughter was our time. She is nine and our son is six months. In order to ease the pain of no longer being the only one we just made sure to spend lots of time with her before he was born. I even took her to a concert the weekend before he was born. Maybe the gift could be a special outing before the new one is born. There aren't to many of those with a new one and your son may really enjoy it. Maybe let him buy something special there. We also let her pick out a bib that says I love my big sister.

What about a book about being a big brother? Or one that is simpler that he could read to the baby as he grows.

Little scrubs that are personalized with their name on it or "big bro". They feel so special when they are dressed in them at the hospital. You can also add the baby's hand prints to it after they are born and save it forever.

We just had a baby boy two weeks ago, and my older son is really into cars. Check out the Canyon Road Table by Step 2. He got this as his big brother gift the day our little one arrived. He plays with it for hours every day, and it's a good thing too, since I spend so much time feeding the baby, etc. It works with any matchbox sized cars and small trains. Definitely a good investment.

Congradulations! I saw a couple have t-shirts that they let the child paint saying "I'm a big brother" and when the baby was born they had his foot prints stamped on it. You could also do a ball cap. If you little boy likes sports you could give him a ball of some sort and do the same thing.

when my 2nd boy was born, my then 3 1/2 year old boy was really into clifford, and also starting to read, so his baby brother gave him a set of easy reader clifford books... he was so excited. a friend of mine who just had her 2nd boy (her first is 4) and she gave big brother a new webkinz from the baby. what are his interests? capitalize on that. we also read 'i'm a big brother" book over and over before the baby came- he loved his special book. he also got to pick out blue suckers to take to school to share with his friends (along with a big brother t shirt to wear). good luck! baby boys are the best!! :)
