Getting Rid of Mold/mildew in a Bathroom and Keeping It Away.

The best way to remove it would be bleached. I would opt for the scented one so that it doesn't overpower you - mix with a bit of water. This is what some of the professional companies use to remove mold from walls etc. (My husband used to work for a national company that you see advertised for fire and water restoration).

Tub & Tile works great AND is does not contain all the harsh chemicals that other brands have. If you have some tough build up you can add some Mela Magic for extra cleaning power. To keep it off you can clean regularly with the same or use No Work daily cleaner.

Try white vinegar. It's non-toxic, smells for a brief time and will disinfect.

The answers I see are good for when you have mold/mildew on the grout of your ceramic tile. If it is from a leak in the wall, that is dangerous and needs to be checked and probably removed and replaced by someone who does tile work who can also remove that safely. Breathing in some kinds of black mold is dangerous.

If it is around your register (for a/c or heating), it can be caused by the a/c running a lot and from the "boot" within not being insulated. The boot can be replaced if it is too icky so you won't have that again (said my hvac repairman last night).

I had my bathroom tile redone last year and the guy didn't seal my grout when he was done, so I fight mildew regularly. Just this past week I found something that works perfectly, without a lot of scrubbing. Soft Scrub with bleach! It goes on thickly and I only scrub it around enough to make sure it is in all the grout. It becomes sort of pasty. I then leave it on the tile/grout for a couple hours. When I come back, I use a scrub brush with water to get it all off and down the drain...and the grout and tiles sparkle. I am really happy with the results given how much time (and money) I've spent on special brushes to scrub and all the types of cleaners I've tried. Soft Scrub is pretty inexpensive and can be found anywhere (grocery, walmart, Walgreens, etc.) It often even goes on sale at Walgreens for buy one/get one.
The fumes are less harsh than straight bleach or some of the standard bathroom cleaners too.

I have mildew in a rented house I am occuping at the moment. My husband used bleach to get rid of it on the walls, but I also read on the www.flylady.com website that if you leave the shower curtain open, and let the walls dry or using the help of a fan to dry the walls you will have almost no mildew.

So far I have left the shower curtain open after my kids take a bath and it has worked. I do not see the mold creeping on the walls.

I had some mold/mildew that I could just not get rid of and tried everything from bleach to the chemicals specifically formulated for mold/mildew remover however once I found out what those products were actually doing (after $500 vet bill from my dog getting 2nd degree burns in her mouth when she did not even get into the cleaning products) I found a 25 year old health and wellness company and have been using their products ever since. The bathroom cleaner straight not diluted sprayed on the walls left for 5 to 10 mins then rinse and guess what no more mold/mildew problems and I do not have to worry about my dogs or one of my kids getting sick now or ever due to harsh chemicals that the EPA allows into our home in small doses...sorry but this is a subject that really hits home for me so I will cut it short. I have found several cleaners that remove mildew right away.....or appear to, but it always comes right back. The one product that I have found that works pretty quickly - and lasts a long time is by (I think) TYLEX with MILDEW ROOT DESTROYER. The only place that I have found the product that says it has MILDEW ROOT DESTROYER in it is at Publix - and it goes BOGO once in awhile. Also - I agree with the other poster - that if it is due to a leak in the wall.....needs to be fixed asap. We had a pipe burst in the wall and had to replace two bathrooms down to the drywall, tile, cabinets etc..... My mentioning the Tylex product was assuming that you were talking about tile and grout only.. Good luck!

I use Shaklee's Basic H2 and Nature Bright. Nature Bright is usually used in the washing machine as a brightening agent. I make a paste of the two with some water, apply it with a sponge and let it sit. I scrub with a white sponge, and the mold is gone.
Chlorine bleach can harm you in many ways, including interfering with memory and logic processing.

Bleach and keeping the room well ventilated.

We get mold often in our bathroom cause their is no fan so moisture builds up easily. Mildex works good but is strong. My hubby likes to use just bleach and a bit of water. EIther one takes some elbow grease and is too strong for me so he does it.
