Getting Ready to Have My Daughters Tonsils Out!

My daughter will be 3 in March and just a few days after her birthday she is having her tonsils and adnoids taken out. I am fine with the surgery but my only problem is that the last time we tried to take out her tonsils she had bronchiole spasm's, so they had to abort the surgery. The doctor said that the bronchiole spasm's was due to her being sick. Well my daughter is always sick so I am trying to find a way to prevent her from getting sick before for surgery in March so she wont have the broncoile spasm's again. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to help her stay as healthy as possible before she does in for surgery?

What can I do next?

My son just turned 3 and he just had his tonsils taken out. I was advised by his doctor that he was NOT to be sick on the day of the surgery or they would cancel. I, luckily, am staying at home right now so I just chose to keep him away from places that are "germy" for a week before his surgery. If you daughter goes to daycare, my suggestion would be to go to the Vitamin Shoppe and get some echnecia drops and give those to her daily a week before her surgery. It doesn't taste great but it is one of those things that you may just have to hold her down and force her to take. I also got zinc losenges from Walgreens and would break one of those up in my mouth and give him a few chuncks of those daily. He was as healthy as could be on the day of the surgery. Again, if you have the option of keeping her at home then I just would not take her anywhere for a week before the surgery. Even if you go to the grocery store, keep her in a stroller and don't let her touch anything.

echinacea!! I had strep non-stop growing up. The only thing that would keep me well was echinacea! There is plenty in Airborne so (make sure ok for a 3 yr old-- but I give it to mine) put one in a glass of juice for her to take down the "vitaminy" taste. so glad you're doing that for her! I suffered until I was 17, which made the procedure & recovery very difficult. We decided against the adeniod removal w/ my son after researching the procedure & his specific symptoms.

GOOD set of vitamins (we do Shaklee for my daughter), probiotics, good handwashing practices (we always do a clean up as soon as they are home from school or out somwhere we use wipes), lots of sleep, and some prayers :) It is tough--you never know when it is going to happen or how they got sick (and it is usually at inopportune times!).

Good luck!

If your daughter is having bronchospasms she needs to see a pediatric pulmonologist or allergist Doctor to get that under control or she'll always be sick. I'd start there, PM me if you'd like any recommendations.
