Getting Pregnant After D&C
Hi Mommy's
Wanted to ask your opinion on this. I keep hearing different things. I recently had a d&c and just got my first period. It's lighter than normal. My doctor said to wait for 1 normal period and then start trying... I hear of people getting pregnant before they even get their period, right after first one- no need to wait b/c that is the best time to get pregnant (most fertile three months after d&c) while there are still pregnancy hormones in your body, and I have heard you really need to wait for 1 regular period. Curious what you know and what you did if you were in this situation.

When I had my D&C my dr. told me to wait till I had one normal period. He said that way if you got pregnant right away we would have no question as to it being a new pregnancy or still elevated hormone levels from the failed pregnancy. I guess the is just in case there was anything left behind after the D&C. We waited I did not want there to be any concerns again!

After my loss in 2003, I was advised to wait three months or 2 regulra cycles, whichever came first, by my doctor but I know there are others who are told 1. I actually benefitted from the wait and was able to track my Basal Body Temperature to ensure I was ovulating. We started trying again after my second cycle and were pregnant after my fourth. I have a friend due in June and she got pregnant after 2 cycles. Hope this helps and best of luck!

I had a d&c in Jan., and I didn't get pregnant again until around July. We didn't try to stop it, it just worked out that way. My son is very healthy, but I'm not sure if there would be complications with the pregnancy and birth, if you don't wait that long.
I have friends that have become pregnant right after their D&C, and everything worked out just fine. I wish you the best. Sorry to hear about your experience. I know that it is a rough situation to be in. It was very difficult for me. God bless you and your family.
Best wishes,
Trisha

My doctor told me after my miscarriage that if i ever wanted kids to start trying immediatly or I would not be able to ever have any so he told me to take all these birth control pills or to start trying so i did and a week after the d&c i was pregnant but dont be discourage it took almost a month for the test to show up positive any though i was cramping and hurting they couldnt figure out why and finally after three different test the ultrasound finally showed up that i was indeed almost a month along i guess since my hormones dropped so low after all the blood lose my body just couldnt rejuvenate the pregnancy hormone to actually show up on the sticks Good Luck try hard but not to hard you might hurt something but dont stress over it because that will lower your chance stress does a lot to the body especially after a dramatic miscarriage

I am sorry to hear about your D&C. After mine, I was told wait for 2 periods that way your body has time to ajust back to normal. Hope this helps.

I would follow your doctor's advice. My doctor recommended waiting 3 months or 3 cycles, whichever happened first. My cycles are long, but we went ahead and waited 3 cycles and got preganant right away. Your body needs to heal and build up a nice lining to give your pregnancy the best chance possible. Best of luck to you!

Having had a d&c, I would imagine your doctor recommended you wait to allow the lining of your uterus to heal.
