Geo-thermal Systems

Does anyone currently have a Geo-thermal system in their home? We're looking into having one installed in our new home (because it doesn't currently have a furnace or waterheater). If you do, or have done research I'd love to hear what you think or how you like it. Also, does it heat your home to your desired level or do you need an additional heat source?

Thanks for your help or any direction of research you can point in. So far we've talked with a couple of companies, but never know if they're just saying what we want to hear.

Hi N.,
I don't sell geothermal, but I can tell ya after hearing Glenn Haege, on wjr on Saturdays that geothurmal is the cheapest around, try $50 a month for heating? My goodness, I can't beat that price for heating a home anywhere!
If you want to know more about it, call Glenn on his show and chat with him about it, on Saturdays, you can find out more about the show at

http://www.wjr.com

then click on weekend experts, then click on Glenn Haege show.
If I owned a home, I would do geothurmal in a heartbeat!

Hi N.,

My husband's best friend has a heating/cooling company so we got our Geo Thermal for alot cheaper than most due to a builder losing their home to foreclosure after the unit was purchased and before it was installed. Anyways, depending on the size of your house and what your current set up is I believe it's around $14,000.00 and tends to pay for itself in 3 years. We have had ours since the end of May and definitely don't need any additional heat source and we love the low cost!! We are also going to switch to a tankless water heater and save even more. I love the fact that I don't have to haggle with the propane companies and I don't dread the bill in the mail anymore. From what I have been told, gas and propane are going to double within the next year so no better timing than now. If you have any more questions, reply back and I would be more than happy to get you some answers. Good Luck!

First, make sure you have the room to put all the piping in will need to do it. Also, check with your electrical company to see if they will give you a discounted rate for the use of it. You can also hook up your AC to it. It is really cheap to run once you have the upfront/first costs covered. We do have a gas furnace too, but we had that before we went to geo thermal. We haven't used it yet though. Also don't forget your electrial company will have to put another box in just for this. Good luck.

My parents have it in their house it the U.P.
It stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We never have to have an additional heat source. It is a great system that saves a lot of money.

GoodLuck.

Well we have a hydro furnace. It taps into the well water we have, plus any other water that seeps into our field and into the system. Works cleanly. No fear of carbon monoxide trouble or gas leaks.
