Gentle Karate for 4 Yr Old

My daughter is curious about karate and we are ready to try a new activity. I am considering taking a trial class and possibly signing her up for a martial arts class. I looked at our local big name karate franchise website and it sounds agressive (sparring, etc.). I'm looking for a program that would teach self-control without agression and that would be fun too. Can anyone recommend an appropriate martial arts program for preschool age children in the north Pinellas area?

What can I do next?

The Little Gym in South Tampa had a great class called Chop Sticks. It's not huge on lots of karate/martial arts moves. But they do learn blocks and kicks, but no sparring w/ other kids. They do this for about 20-25 minutes and then for the next 1/2 hour or so they do gymnastics rotations, that involve some aspect of what they just learned (blocks, kicks etc.) It was very fun and my kids had a ball in it-and were very tired by the end of class!

My kids took at the YMCA. I don't know what they have at the Eastlake Y, but the the Gills YMCA just over the Pasco line they offer karate, and it was great for little ones. Good luck.

Yes! Pro Karate Center on County Rd 1 in Palm Harbor is fabulous! You will not find a better Karate experience for your child. My son has been attending since he was 5 and he's 8 now. We had to take a short break due to financial reasons (recession is hitting everyone hard) but plan to go back. I won't take my child anywhere else. If you go tell Sensei Dean and his wife Miss June I said hello!

Isshinryu Karate is great for little ones. My son took lessons at 5 years old and they really focused on self-confidence and self defence, not sparring and winning medals.
