I was wondering if anyone had any luck using generic diapers? We use huggies and love them but I have heard that a lot of mother's use Publix brand and Target brand and love those. For the first few months, we used Pampers and they always leaked. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Hi A.,

I also used the expensive brand in the beginning. We had the same leaking issues with the generic ones until he was into the size 4's. I wouldn't totally give up on them, but keep trying back every once in a while to see if they work yet. Until then, clip coupons!!

We have used Target brand for at least a year now, the only thing I noticed is that I had to go up a size from what my son was using in the huggies. My son is a super soaker and the target diapers hold it all in. Luvs were the worst for us- maybe it's a boy thing, I wanted to throw them away after using just a couple. As far as overnight goes, DS is 2 and is not going as much over night so we use target ones at night now too- we were using huggies supremes but then they changed and I couldn't find the old ones anywhere and the new baby shaped one's are not as good. I think once you find a cheap one that works stick with it, and buy it in bulk! :)

Pampers leaked for my son too. We use huggies and love them. To save money we buy them by the case at Sam's club. It has saved us a huge amount since his birth! Hope this helps.

Check the prices first. We get Huggies at BJ's and they are cheaper per diaper than buying Winn Dixi brand which is my second pick. BJ's have a generic too but I haven't tried them.

Pampers were too bulky on my girls & they leaked through Luvs. I ended up using Walmart brand- the yellow pack w/ Suzie Q on them. They worked just fine. When mine were in diapers, they didn't have the velcro fasteners & now they do, so even better!!

My daughter is 9 1/2 months old and I get whatever is on sale or whatever I have coupons for. Basically, whatever works out to be least expensive per diaper. So far, I've tried Pampers, Huggies, CVS, Publix, White Cloud, Luvs, Target and Toys R Us brands (I think that's all). Luckily, my daughter hasn't gotten any rashes from any brand of diaper. As another poster mentioned, the Publix and CVS diapers are exactly the same. So far, the diapers that I like the least are Pampers. They just don't fit my daughter right and seem to be some of the most expensive, even with coupons. Huggies are alright, but again they are pretty expensive. The only thing that I don't care for with Huggies is that if my daughter pees even one drop, the diaper starts to stink like it is full of urine. I don't let my daughter just sit in a wet or dirty diaper, but I don't like that Huggies start to smell like urine when they are barely even wet. I really don't have any complaints about any of the other diaper brands that we have tried. We haven't had any leaks at all. Also, I never really notice much of a difference between the "premium/supreme" and the "regular" version of diapers. The premium/supreme versions are usually just more expensive and have fewer diapers in the package. Honestly, unless the diapers are leaking or giving your child a rash, why would you want to spend the extra money for something that your child pees and poops in. I say get whatever works out to be cheapest per diaper.

A note about wipes - If you haven't already, try the Target brand baby wipes. They have some that are comparable to Pampers, and some that are comparable to Huggies and I can't tell the difference. Although I dont' like the diapers, I love the Pampers wipes (they are just so much softer than the Huggies wipes). The Target brand of wipes that are comparable to Pampers Unscented wipes are great (they are also the cheapest I've found)!

I think it really depends on the baby. We tried the Publix brand, but didn't like them. We used the Pampers Swaddlers in the beginning, but switched to the Huggies around size 1. He is now is a size 3 and we have never had a leak nor diaper rash while using Huggies. He wears them all night without fail. We LOVE them. We tried the Publix brand, but didn't like them.

My oldest son could ONLY wear Huggies. So that was expensive! ha ha He has VERY sensitive skin and we tried other brands (even Pampers) and he would get a horrible reaction - it looked like he had a sunburn all over his diaper area! We got them from Sam's b/c the savings is huge, even with a coupon at a regular store (Wal-Mart, etc), Sam's was cheaper without the coupon!

For my youngest son, we could put ANYTHING on him (what a relief!). We used White Cloud from Wal-Mart when he was a baby (for newborns, I always used Huggies!). Then when he was walking and out and about we switched to Parent's Choice at Wal-Mart. Now for my youngest's pull-ups we use Sam's brand pull ups - they work just like Huggies Pull-Ups! =) Good luck - I know it was hard for me to switch to the inexpensive diapers! =)

For my 3rd I plan on using cloth diapers! So much better for the environment and budget!

I've used several different kinds of diapers, from Parents Choice to Publix, White Cloud, Huggies, Luvs and Pampers. When my daughter was first born I loved the Pampers. The newborn and size one were perfect for her, no leaks. I hated Luvs in those sizes b/c they just didn't fit her right, they were too wide. Huggies I have found leak, no matter what size. White Cloud, found at Walmart work great, an occasional leak here and there, same with Publix brand, if you aren't on top of getting the diaper changed literally evey hour and half to two hours. Parents Choice I haven't used since the one pack I had when my daughter was born, but I do not like them, they would slide right off her bottom, it was like they were too short. Oddly enough, I tried the Luvs when she was a size 2, now she's a 3, and I've stuck with those so far. They seem to have the best absorbancy, and fit her perfectly. It really depends on the shape of your baby I think, obviously every baby, like every human body is proportioned differently, and this diaper that works for one baby may not for another. Trial and error is your best shot of finding a diaper that works. I'm all about saving money and Luvs aren't too expensive, though the White Cloud and Parents Choice are cheaper, but I'm willing to soend the little bit extra on a diaper that works b/c if it doesn't, the money I "saved" on diapers I'd end up spending on laundry.

I realize it has been awhile since my kids were in diapers, however I do remember using Huggies cuz they were the only diapers that wouldn't leak or break them out. All I can say is to buy some and try them if you really want too, but my kids would break out in a rash along the elastic band so I just stuck with Huggies.
Good luck.

You know I tried Huggies about 3 or 4 different times because I had coupons for them and honestlt to me it seemed like the diaper wore thin after a couple of hours from the urine... I absolutely looove White Cloud though. They are not generic but not pricey either. They hold up good and they last for awhile. Ive never experienced anything bad with them. They are great! Target I tried and they gave my baby a rash. Cuddles... NO!! They are horrible! Oh yea- you can get the White Cloud brand from Wal Mart for about $6.. good price too...
Ahh well, hope I helped! :)
Have a great day!

I'd been using Pampers Baby Dry since my daughter was born and LOVED them. Recently, my daughter's father had purchased the Family Choice (Wal-mart brand) and been using those. After him using these for over a month, I finally gave in and started buying those myself & really like them. They're about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the Pampers ones and, as long as we make sure she's in the right size, we haven't had any issues with leakage, etc.

I think that the generic diapers are great. With my first child I tried all the expensive stuff. I tried Huggies, but even if she peed once in them she got those little weird rubbery balls all over. And so then I went to pampers... which like you said leaked (yes even the leak guard ones) so then I tried the walmart brand and they were AWESOME, no problems at all. Now I am on baby #2 and for him the walmart brand weren't so great. I happen to be married to the military lol, so we use the brand that they sell at the BX. And they have been fabulous for him (and even cheaper than the walmart ones!) and trust me I am not a bargin shopper! I had to learn through trial and error! hope this helps ya if even a little! Good luck!

I like target diapers. But, I was not happy with generic diapers until after the liquid poop phase. Once we got beyond that I tried generic again and I haven't gone back to name brand since. I believe that Target brand is cheaper than Publix, the box is like $15. To me it's well worth it. Now we are starting to use Target pull ups which are just fine but we need something more absorbant overnight so I use Huggies night time diapers and happily, those have never leaked once.

Hi A.,
Public premium and Target make work for me, Target is less expensive than Publix. I use Pampers "swadlers" at night or whenever she is in a diaper for more than two hours. Pampers swadlers are my favorite, maybe they work better for girls. Durig the day I change her diapers every hour or so.

I have only ever had any luck with pampers. Huggies and Luvs always leaked for me. I wont even use the generics it seems like it would be better to just use cloth diapers. A friend of mine uses them and her baby will leak through them within like an hour. Now those are the Wal-Mart or win Dixie brands so Publix and Target may be better, but if your happy with what you use I would stick with it. I mean its only a couple dollars difference.

WHITE CLOUD FROM WALMART!!!! They are the best and $14.74 for a mega box of 72 - 102. I thought expensive meant better and I was wrong. I use Publix brand, they are my favorite. My experience has been that they don't leak. That being said, I think the leakage issue has to do with the shape of the diaper as opposed to the brand. I prefer the stretchable tab type over the other ones. I prefer Publix over Target and Luvs. If I can't have Publix I buy Pampers.

The brand name ones sure do get expensive. We started trying out generics a month or so ago. Our only problem was at night because they don't seem to pull the moisture away and our son gets uncomfortable. So now we use White Cloud during the day and then Pampers at bedtime. So far it's worked like a charm, and saved lots of money!

Target brand has a very good deal with a big box for only 13 dollars. They work better than huggies with no leaks. Also walmart has a brand, Parent's choice. don't get the white cloud they are rough. Parent's choice is 10 dollars for the mega pack. I've been using both brands since my baby was little because the ones that have a smell like Luvs irritate her. Also she used to go through much more diapers. They also adjust well and work good on larger babies to stretch around the stomach.

We use cloth diapers in our house...no pins...rather snaps or aplix (which is like velcro). They're great. They save you money...not only because you reuse them but because they have great resale value. They're easy and one of the best things..NO DIAPER RASH! They're cute too.

Here are a few websites....

fuzzibunz.com

diaperpin.com

diaperswappers.com

You can also google cloth diapers and find tons of stuff.
