We are giving my 3 year old an Easy Bake oven this year. He loves cooking shows and refers to himself as a little chef :) Does anyone have tips on fun projects to make? I hear rumors that you can use things other than the mixes sold for use with the ovens, has anyone tried it? Thanks for any suggestions, I am looking forward to playing with my son and our food!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

He asked for a play kitchen from Santa, so I thought it would be really fun to have a "working" oven in his kitchen! He cooks with me nearly every night, but still wanted a kitchen of his own. And thanks to amazon, I'm only wasting about $20, and I can live with that :) I will try the Jiffy mix, I forgot all about those! Veruca, any pizza recipe would be appreciated!!
Thanks, ladies!
ETA: So excited to make tiny pizzas!!!!!!

Sorry but these ovens are a complete waste of money. The treats are so small and they come out of the oven practically inedible. My daughter would not even eat it.

My advice is to take the oven back and buy a little chef's hat, apron and get a set of measuring cups, spatula etc. for your son.

Search Easy bake ovens on Mamapedia. Quite a few people have asked about them and everyone that responds pretty much says the same thing...don't buy it.

Never wasted my money on Easy Bake. My kids cooked with me and used everything I used.

The Easy Bake Oven product, MUST have a website.
Look there.
That is the best place to figure it out.
And per a Google Search, here is a link for recipes for the Easy Bake Oven:

Other than that, from todderlhood, my kids cooked in the kitchen with me. At 3, my son could make scrambled eggs himself from beginning to end. With my supervision.
Get your son some kid sized cooking aprons, cooking utensils etc. But it is outgrown fast.
Or buy, boxed cake mixes etc. and teach him how to make it with your supervision.
Teach him how to use cooking implements and utensils and mixing bowls and what not.

Jiffy mixes, pizza on an english muffin or flat out. Maybe just give him a little pancake batter or save some cookie dough next time you make them.

We always used Jiffy mixes for my easy bake when I was young.

Find cheap brownie mix, and give him an assortment of sprinkles to decorate with.

The mixes are disgusting. Search recipes for easy bake. There are a lot of very simple recipes that will actually teach him about baking and don't taste like chemicals. You can even make pizza. My daughter and I made a cookbook together of her favorite recipes.

ETA: I disagree they're a waste of money. Do not use eggs in homemade mixes, though - so the box mixes are a bad idea.

Here you go! But please, do not use recipes that require eggs!!! All the above suggestions use eggs - the oven is not hot enough to be safe. There are good recipes specific for easy bake - just google them.
