"My Green Kite" by Peter Himmelman. My daughter is 2 also and loves a few of the songs. The artist used to be in a rock band and made a kids CD. I like it because it is an adult singing and it doesn't give me a headache.

Hi C., I know you've got a lot of responses but I HAD to mention Reggae for Kids:

CD includes songs like Puff the Magic Dragon, Yellowman, lots of cute reggae remixes that even I sorta like. :)

We've enjoyed Ralph Covert (Green Gorilla, Monster, and Me; Under the Sea; Happy Lemons; Ralph's World; etc.). They have videos too. It's one of the few my husband and I can stand listening to about 100 times in a row. It's a good blend of "kid themed music" without being too nursery rhyme for the parents.

Wow, what an overwhelming response. I am surprised no one mentioned the personalized CD's @ Kiddos Delight. They are great, all of our kids here at the Nestingplace have loved them and like some others mentioned they are really modern with your childs name in all of the songs.

My almost 2 year old daughter loves Laurie Berkner; there are fun animal and train sounds in the songs that she mimics. Also, the Curious George Soundtrack is fun. Any of the "Children's Celebration of...Dance Music/Song/Rock music, etc." on Amazon are great for kids but also adult-friendly.
have fun!

For that age, I would recommend Hap Palmer, Raffi, and the children's CD produced by the Hanen Centre in Canada. Both sing songs that are slow enough for the children to actually hear the words. Hap Palmers are original, but not short and repetitive. The Hanen CD has many favorites that are sung at a rate that children acquiring language could actually sing along with, and enjoy.
Good luck - and keep singing!

I wish I could offer more specific names, but go to Wal-Mart or Target and look in their Cd's. Ask them where the kids Cd's are. There are a lot to choose from.
I remember my kids had a Mickey Mouse tape, and all of those characters sang unique songs to popular music at the time. It was so fun... plus, because it was kid lyrics put to current songs, it made it MUCH more tolerable to my husband and me!

Veggie Tales and Sesame Street are the best. Both are GREAT teaching tools!
My personal favorite song from Veggie Tales:
God is bigger then the Boogie Man. LOL
My 7 yr old still asks me to sing that one and "The Pirates who don't do anything" to him cause they are silly.
Kenny Loggins has a song called "Return to Pooh Corner". I sing that to my 5 month old and he loves it. Always smiles. It is pretty old, my father used to sing it to me as a baby.

Trout Fishing in America is a great childrens music band. They are from Austin and are really great family guys also. They have a line of both childrens and grown-up music. All of which is safe in the language and topic area.
You can look them up and I think even purchase cd's on their myspace page. www.myspace.com/troutfishinginamerica
Or their website:
www.troutmusic.com
They also do kids shows here in houston, and they are really fun! My neices nephews and cousins have all enjoyed going to the shows since they were about 18 mo.

My daughter is 21 months old and we listen to Disney radio a lot. I bought a CD called "Disney Mania 5". It contains a lot of Disney movie songs, sung by artists their way. She likes it, and it doesn't drive me crazy either :) Although I think they are meant for older children, my daughter also likes the Hannah Montana CDs.
"Mr. Isaac" comes into her daycare once a week and all the kids love him. He has some CDs that you can purchase, but I don't know how to get them outside of her daycare.

Great list so far and there are a few I see that I will have to try out. I hate cheesy kids music. What I do is go to the library and check out thier cd's. If there is one that I like, I go buy it, the rest I turn back in. We have several favorites.
John Lithgow (actor from 3rd Rock from the Sun)has 3 cd's. The best is "Singin' in the Bathtub".
Sara Hickman - we have both teh baby and toddler ones.
Jack Johnson - Love the Gurious George CD.
Philadelphia Chickens - Sandra Boynton is so clever. If you like her books, you will love her music and it is fun to sing the books later.

GO to Barnes and Noble and you can sample any music CD. You just put some headsets on and scan the bar code and it will play many song clips from any CD. It's the best way to sample music and listen for yourself wether or not your daughter would like them. She might want to take a listen herself. I LOVE LOVE this about B & N.
Good Luck!

I ran across the Choo Choo Soul videos last year on the Disney channel and my soon to be 3 y/o little boy absolutely loves them still! I have been waiting for the videos to come out on DVD but they have not to my knowledge so we catch them on the Disney channel in between shows or you can view some on the Disney website and put in Choo Choo Soul Disney in the search area. They sing about ABC's, they count, they sing about dancing, being polite etc and they are full of soul and the children want to move. My little wiggle worm always dances to all of the songs and I am pretty sure that is where he learned his ABC's. I know you can download the songs on itunes and record them, but go to the website first and see if she likes them.

Laurie Berkner is awsome. She has several CDs and a DVD out. My daughter loves them all. Also, she's not so bad for adults to listen to. She has very catchy little songs that I find myself humming all day. No little high pitched kids singing the same old songs.
