Ft Stewart Internet Service and Cell Phone Service

I am moving to Ft Stewart soon and want to know what internet and cell phone services are available at Ft Stewart. It seems that only Coastal is available for broadband internet and only in a huge/expensive package that includes way more than I want/need. It looks like Earthlink and Hargray both offer dialup service.

Are there any other options for internet service providers and how is the service in the area?

Also who has the best cell phone coverage in the area? Does anyone know who has the government contract so I may be able to call cell phone to cell phone, without costing minutes, to my husband if he would ever get a government cell phone?

Thank you in advance for any and all opinions/help on internet and cell phone service providers.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for their responses. I now have a better insight and know what choices are out there, not just what was in the packets of information that a realtor sent me on the area. Thanks again.

Hello, C.
We have Coastal for the internet, we pay $40/month, very fast, never had a problem with them. And if u tell them yr hubby is active military, there is no set up fee.
Alltel is our cellphone company, and we have "my cyrcle" set up. So the 10 pple in our cyrcle we can call and it doesnt cost minutes. We can change numbers in my cyrcle at any time. So if yr hubby does get a dif num, u can always change it. h And active military get %10 off on a monthly bill. Good luck on yr move!

The Ft. Stewart area is also served by Comcast, Windstream,
and others for Internet; and most major Cell phone companies such as Alltel, Hargray, Cingular, T-mobil, Verizon, Sprint, and BellSouth. This is input from a civilian, maybe another mom can help you with the input specific to your military oriented questions. Personally, I am using Windstream for my land line and Internet, (ask about specials), Comcast for my Cable T.V., and Alltel for my cell phone needs. Good luck and welcome to the community.

Hi, Welcome to Fort Stewart. I have Coastal but I have also had Comcast. I have not had problems with Coastal. As far as cellphone, I think Verizon is the best. I have T-Mobile and it has a lot to be desired. My husband has Alltell and I think there coverage is good but I don't like their plans. I work on Fort Stewart and I can't remember off hand what service they use. Email me tomorrow and I'll ask my supervisor the name of the service. I'm sorry I'm drawing a blank at the moment. Contact me when you get in town.

Hi C., welcome to the area. We've been here 2yrs. We use coastal for internet and we recieved a deal for $20.00 off,so we pay $60.00 for both and if you tell them you're active mil. you won't get charged a set up fee. We also use verizon for cell,we love it.you can even sign up on-line,it's way cheaper than going to the verizon shop that's here in Hinesville. You can also get 10% off your mo. bill for active duty and if you need new phones,do it online as well, they have way better deals,we got two razors for $10.00 a piece. Also, just thought I'd let you know that you can get any over-the-counter meds for free just by going to the base pharmacy. So if you need Tylenol for the kids, just ask for it.Walmart is the only main store here in Hinesville, but Savannah(only 30 to 45min. away)has everything you need and it's a nice place. It's not too bad here, pretty nice here on Ft. stewart, just wear lots of mosquito repellant,it's that time of year. There is a splash park and a indoor play ground(Tree house)for the kids here, mini golf,2gyms,a pool &wading pool for kids and soon to be Lazer tag. There is lots of happenings here too, just look in the 'front line' paper(comes on fri.) Good luck w/everything,I know I gave you more info.than you asked, but thought you would be interested.Again, Welcome! Have a safe move.

Comcast Cable has internet service. I have Coastal so I don't know the cost for the cable company's internet service. Verizon has the government contract right now. If you want great cell phone coverage everywhere you go, I would suggest Alltel or Verizon but I think their service is the most expensive in the area. HTH. D. P.S. welcome to the area

Welcome to Ft Stewart,
Hinesvill/Ft. Stewart serves just about every cell company, but depending on where you live in the area determines your best service. I live in Midway, I live about 20 miles outside of Hinesville and 20 from Savannah. We have been here 2 years and we both had Sprint and it worked fine on Stewart and in HVille, but not at our house. So we switched to Verizon and it works great. We are on the water and Cingular and Verizon seems to be the only two that works out here.
This is a nice area, we are leaving in October though. There is plenty to do in this area it is all in what you make it. I am biased, because I live in such a beautiful part of the area. Right on the Newport River which leads out into the Atlantic in Liberty County.
Make sure you go to the Georgia Isles. Jekyll, St Simon, Amelia, Kinsland, Newport, St. Catherines and more. My kids love going to beaches there. Jekyll has an awesome water park and wonderful golfing. Savannah has great history and beautiful scenery. Not to mention the great seafood. Fresh seafood. River Street is a lot of fun for the whole family by day. At night send the kids home. Savannah has a lot to offer, City Market, the Historic District, Paula Deen's My Lady and Sons, Riverboat Cruises, Casino Cruises. There is so much here. I sound like a brochure. We just really enjoyed our time here.
I hope to meet you when you get here.
Good Luck

WELCOME TO FT. STEWART :) I've been here for 6 years--and it's become home. We first started out with Comcast for our cable needs and we also had Coastal Communications for our home phone and internet service. Now Comcast offers phone, internet, and cable in a blundle package and it--so far--has been wonderful. The cable is great quality because it's digital and also offers HD, on demand-evrything, and offers DVR as well. I love the fact that my baby girl can watch all of her favorite shows on demand when ever she wants. The chanels also have PBS kids SPROUT, and NOGGIN--the two channels that i can not live without.
I love the fact that i can get all 3 from 1 company--just one bill to pay and i can call 1 company for all of my needs. HOPE THIS HELPS--AND AGAIN, WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD:)
