6 months in the deep freeze 3 months in the regular freezer. Oh and never store breast milk on the door of the fridge because the temperature is less consistent and can lead to problems. Also never re-freeze thawed milk:)

3 to 4 months in the refrigerator freezer
6 to 7 months in a DEEP freezer

Use thawed breastmilk within 24 hours
Never refreeze thawed breastmilk
Always store as far back as possible from the door (Never IN the door of either freezer or refrigerator)

You didn't ask, but just in case others reading this may need to know:
Pumped breastmilk (fresh - never frozen) keeps in refrigerator 7 days or at room temp for 8 to 10 hours

Great resources for info are www.LLLI.org (La Leche League International) and www.kellymom.com.

It depends on how you freeze it.

If you use a normal freezer, it's usually no longer than 3 months as the proteins begin to break down. If you have a deep freezer, it can usually be up to six months.

You can google it and get some really good, credible information, too.

Hope that helps.

Traditional wisdom has said it will last X in the deep freeze and Y in your refrigerator door. And that your baby's nutritional needs change, so really 3 months is the max you should hold on to breastmilk. What you made in June will no longer adequately provide the right nutrition for your baby in December.

Now, all that to say that a recent study says not to freeze breastmilk at all, that it kills infection fighting cells (or something like that), but that your bm will stay fresh in the back part of the fridge (where it's colder) for 4 days without diminishing in nutrition.
