My son's 4 front teeth was pulled out by his dentist when he was 2 years old because it was infected. Now, my son is 10 years old and his 4 front teeth has not come in yet. The ortho did x ray last saturday, and his teeth are there it's just not coming out. And there is an arc around his gums of his 2 front teeth. His ortho now wanted to refer him to surgery to open his gums to help teeth come out. Is this really necessary. I am afraid that my son will get traumatize wit the procedure. Please help me, does anyone had the same experience. I have read that if the xray shows the teeth are there it will come out on it's own time, approxiamtely how much longer. is this true.

What can I do next?

Oral surgery is no fun, for sure. I know, because my son has had five between the ages of 10 and 15. (He had a lot more problems than it sounds like your son has.) However, imagine your son going into his teen years without front teeth. That is just asking to be harrassed, in my opinion. I think this is one of those rock and a hard place situations from the mommy perspective. When I find myself there, I try to consider not only how I'll worry, but what is right in the long run.

Best wishes

This happened with my son... And they didn't need a surgeon for it... His dentist simply made a slit in his gums and they came down pretty fast... He said if they didn't come down with a small incision then they would have to go to a surgeon that would put a brace to bring his teeth down... But after the dentist did it, it was so fast!!!

go to nearest Whole Foods. buy cell salts called Calc Fluor 6X and Calc Phos 6X. Give him 5/each every 8 hours for 2 weeks - did the trick for my reluctant teether : )
Good Luck

By age 10 the teeth should be in. My daughter had a canine tooth that wouldn't drop down and the ortho had to cut the gum away, attach a brace and actually pull it down. The tooth was starting to calcify into the bone and if we hadn't taken care of it when we did, the tooth would never have come in and we would have been looking at an implant. The procedure shouldn't be traumatizing; explain carefully what will happen and what to expect. Have him ask the dentist/periodontist any questions he has to ease his fears/anxieties, and he should be fine.

He should really have this fixed. It sounds as though they are not going to come out on their own, and this is a necessary procedure. He is 10 years old, old enough to reason with and explain the procedure - it shouldn't traumatize him.

His teeth should be in by now. His gums are probably hardened now and the teeth will not come in on their own w/o intervention.
