Frizzy Hair - Lincoln,IL

My 2yr old has beautiful curly hair. The problem is it only looks that way when its wet. When it drys it is stiff, dry and frizzy and it looks like she has nappy damaged hair. I have tried using leave in conditioner, Just For Me hair milk, basically anything to wet her hair when I come it. I even tried flat ironing her hair and it was still stiff and dry. Any advise on what to do with this mess!

What can I do next?

assuming your child is caucasion, i use expensive conditioner from a salon (instead of the waxy store stuff). a tiny bit. every time. helps alot along w/detangler.

Try letting her hair air dry, it will prevent damage and reduce frizz. You can also try the frizz ease brand of products.

Hmmm..is ur daughter biracial?? i have 2 going on three mixed children i am hispanic and their father is african american. their hair is very curly and dry and can be very nappy if not well taken care of. i use moisturizing hair lotion on them. first i used the just for me brand which recently hasnt been strong enough so i switched to something a lil more moisturizing and now use a hair lotion called olive oil its a green bottle with a green label. if its still not enough moistrizer try hair grease such as blue magic which im sure is in my new future...hair lotions have been a major help to me daily and save alot of painful pulling and tugging on my daughters head. i hope something works for u...

Try a hair serum. And a little goes a long way. I twill tame the frizzies and add shine.

I recently discovered a product called MorrocanOil. My hairstylist used it on my hair when she last cut my hair. I called her the next day to ask what it was and if she would get me some. My hair is very dry and frizzy and it really helps both. It is a product that is used on wet hair. It is a little expensive but well worth it and it can be used on any hair type because it is light and not greasy once it is in the hair.

I have naturally curly hair and so do both of my daughters. Whatever you do stay away from any type of mousse. If your daughter's hair is frizzy it will only make it worse. You need a spray gel. On my daughters I use Suave kids 3 n 1 shampoo. I find that I can use pretty much any shampoo on my little one...but my oldest needs a conditioner now. When they come out of the tub, I use the Suave Kids Detangling Spray. We use the dutch apple and the smell is soooo nice. Spray her hair and then brush it through. Towel dry her a just enough so that it is not dripping wet. Then I use Garnier (green see thru spray bottle) curl shaping spray gel. Both of these products are only about $2 each. The trick to this is, since it is a gel it will weigh the hair down enough so it is not frizzy but it will define the curls. As you spray the gel you need to scrunch her hair. Gel, scrunch, gel scrunch...keep going around her hair and underneath. Use a little more in the front around her face. You will notice a difference immediately. In the summer you can just let it air dry and in the winter you can use a blow dryer on low heat and just dry it a little at a time. The next day you can refresh her hair with the spray gel again. You will need to wash her hair every other day. If she is in a pool I find that I have to wash it after the pool because the gel becomes a sticky mess and their hair looks horrible. The biggest trick to taming frizzy hair is to keep your hair trimmed. Regular trimmings are super important with curly hair..go no more than 8 weeks in-between a cut or trim. Curly hair needs that little bit of extra maintance to keep it looking fresh and nice. DO NOT brush or comb curly hair when it is dry....that will frizz out your hair. Use your fingers only. I wish my mom knew what to do with my hair when I was little...my pictures were me with a big ol' bush on my head. :) good luck

Stop using shampoo and use a touch of conditioner (like you would gel) after the bath.

This might sound bizarre, but I use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly Cream on my daughter's hair. I rub a litle in my hands and then scrunch throughout her hair. It acts like a hair cream and really tames frizz and defines curls. It is less than $3 a pop!
