Frizzy Hair!

No matter what I do, my hair is very frizzy, especially after drying. It's bugging me to death, and several of my friends have commented on it (in a joking way of course) as well as my little sister. Please, if anyone can give me some tips, it would be very appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you, everyone, for sending me in advice! I couldn't get ahold of a straightener, so I've been just letting it dry naturally after towel drying and only brushing it when it's wet, or else sticking it in a ponytail and letting the ponytail poof out (sounds awful, looks pretty awesome). Thanks again!

Hi A.!

Have you tried to make your hair wavy by putting a curling product in your hair after towel drying it? I also have very frizzy hair if I blow dry, but if I put a curling product in it, and scrunch sections with my fist, it's wavy, almost curly, and looks much more managed.

Bed Head hair products have something called all "curled up", and I use Sun Silk "Waves of envy" products. They are affordable and work great.

Good luck!

I have half curly and half straight hair so I have to blow dry it straight everyday one way to avoid it being frizzy is before I get out of the shower I rinse my hair with ice cold water and then i wait tell my hair is starting to dry before I blow dry it and then when my hair is dry I use the cold dry setting on the blow dryer to cool my hair off.
I hope this makes sense and help you.

If you want straight hair, look into getting a hair straightener and some straightening product. If you want curly, try gel and scrunching it. I was skeptical of hair straighteners for a long time, but recently got one and love it. It takes my hair from curly to straight in very little time, and with a little product, it looks great all day. I find my hair is less frizzy if I let it air dry, which works for me since I have three kids to get ready, as well, I'm up long enough for it to dry, or at least almost dry. I just run the straightener through it then, or leave it curly. For years before trying this, I too, thought I had very frizzy hair. Now it's manageable, even in humid climates. GL and have fun experimenting. Keep going with all the creativity! Sounds great!

I was going to say the same thing. My friend in High School had very thick, frizzy hair. She insisted on trying to blow it dry and wear it straight. But if we put gel or another curling product in it, her hair was actually very pretty curly or wavy. So I would give it a try. Oh, and C++. I'm impressed. That's definitely a good thing to know. Good luck!

Hi A., I'm a Hair stylist and the advice you have gotten is right on keep trying different things to see what works best for you. Talk to the person who does your hair they know what might work for you and your texture. Redken has a lot of great products for curly hair, try their Total Recharge it is a leave in conditioner and will not leave your hair feeling heavy. Good luck

A.,
Us curly haired people out there feel your pain!:) A couple things that I have learned over the years:
1. Don't brush your hair! If you really need to get the tangle out then put a thick conditioner (something for curly, frizzy hair works well) on in the shower and comb the conditioner through with a wide toothed comb. Don't comb it once you are out of the shower- it breaks down any curls or waves you may have.

2. Get a hair dryer that has a "diffuser" attachment. They look like a claw that you attach to the end of the hair dryer. You put this on the end, put the dryer on low, then scrunch your hair up into the claw. It takes a while but it is worth it.

3. Use hair products. This is important! I use Sebastian Potion 9 (it is like a leave on conditioner but doesn't leave your hair weighted down) and Tigi Catwalk Curls Rock (it is a styling gel). Frizz-ease is a good product as well.

4. The more you touch your hair the frizzier it will get. Put your product on then try not to touch it much.

Good luck with your hair. A good resource for you might be www.naturallycurly.com. Even if you don't have curly hair it has some good info.

Hey A.! I have curly, long hair...down to my behind. When I was a kid, my mom didn't know what to do with it. If we cut it, it was even more curly. Along with the curl came the frizz! aaahhh! I always wanted straight hair as a kid. Around your age I finally figured out what to do. I used a lot of conditioner, brushed my hair, and immediately put on hair gel and then hair spray. If I wear my hair down, I need more gel and more hairspray. You really have to find products that work for your hair though. Some gels and hairsprays end up flaky. Just try different kinds until you find the right one! I can't brush my hair once it is dry unless I know I am getting right in the shower. If you have straight hair that's frizzy I think that something like "Frizz Ease" (not sure of how they spelled it though) would work. You just use a little bit in the frizzy spots. Oh...hair...it's such a hassle! Hope you find something that works!!

Hi A.!

Here are what I think might be some helpful hints.

Washing your hair everyday can make it worse: make sure you use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner...there are some just for frizz. I like Aveda the best, but I know it can be expensive...Pantene, Dove, Sauve and Fruitese Garnier (sp) I believe all have smoothing products. You probably need a good leave-in product...Potion 9 is great, but I know there are other conditioner or silicone based leave-ins that work too! I would find some travel sizes to try out to see what will work for you.

Also, if you use a hair dryer...let your hair dry a little first then finish it with the dryer. If your hair is curly I would try a diffuser, if it straight try a large round brush or a paddle brush to help smooth your hair...and always (with straight hair) point the dryer down, not up or the frizz will be even worse!

I hope you find some really great products that work for you and that you like...13 can be hard sometimes, but it will be over faster than you can ever imagine. Have a wonderful day!
