Friends' Christmas Card Pics

Over the years, I have accumulated a lot of pictures of friends' and relatives' kids sent in holiday cards. Sometimes they are the kids' school pics and sometimes they are photo Christmas cards. I never know what to do with these photos! I feel guilty pitching them but do I really want them? Just curious what others do with other people's kids photos. I tend to keep too much stuff!

What can I do next?

i used to feel obliged to keep them all, but i'm over it. i enjoy looking at them, give 'em a coo (or a giggle<G>) and pitch 'em.
if they're particularly close friends they might do a stint on the refrigerator.
but seriously. look at them, then toss them.
and be okay when they do it too!

I have a small, nice board in the kitchen that I post some of them on, after trimming them down to just the photos. We get to see all of their smiles all year. Then the next year I swap them out and usually stash them in a nice festive Christmas box. After a while I'll go through and get rid of some of the older ones, but there is lots of room in that box. It's a square size a little bigger than a shoe box. I can't throw them away immediately. I saw a neat project that a friend did with them too. She punched holes in them and put in large binder rings to hold one year's worth together, then she puts them out each year as a decoration on the coffee table. Cute idea! That way you get to look back at how much those kiddos have changed.

I have a box that i keep them all in. I can't just pitch them, it's like my own kids baby pictures.

Good thing too, when a friend lost all of her kids pic's I was able to pull all the ones I have and give them to her.

I keep the ones I actually care about in my photo albums, along with the rest of that year's Christmas photos. Everything else gets tossed.

I have a big box where ALL cards go into.. I keep them because my son enjoys family history items and this way, he can see over the years who has sent us pics. IF at some point, he wants to toss em, I will leave it up to him..

So funny, because I was thinking about this today as I pulled down the cards. My tendency is to keep the ones from the people who are most important to us. Not that family isn't important, but my husband's cousins whom we've seen three times in 12 years and don't otherwise communicate? Not close enough to keep.

I put them in a photo album. There are always blank pages at the end of the book anyway, and they are fun to look at on occasion.

If it's family or beloved friends, the pics go on the fridge.
If it's remote family we never, ever see or the like, into the bin they go.

After the holidays, I put them all in a box and save them.

They are amazing to look back at later as the children get older.

I came up with a clever solution to this question this year, as I had the same issue. Unlike some other responders, I'm not a saver, but I am a re-user. So for years, I had be repurposing the prior year's Christmas cards into gift tags by cutting out the cute pictures & designs. Since I had been getting far fewer traditional "cards", and more photo cards, that was becoming difficult. So this year, I cut out the pictures of the kids themselves and used that as the gift tag! So the tag had the photo of the kid that was the recepiant of the gift on the front, with the standard: to... from... message I write on the back. They went over really well!

I questioned saving these for many years. I just put pictures of my friends and family on my tree, putting them away each year with the ornaments. Last year i was greatful as one of my friends who.faithfully sent us a family picture each year for christmas, back to school pictures and emailed me many along the way...all were saved and when the week before christmas her house burned along with all her pictures and memories, i.was able to gather, print and salvage her memories. While it didn't make her house complete it helped her heal, knowd it..ing her pictures mattered, her family mattered enough to me to have sav

I put mine in the photo album.

I noticed some posts told you to pitch them. I wouldn't. There are a lot of other things you can pitch out to declutter yourself that are less meaningful. I save even the ones we don't get to see very often, even the ones I haven't seen in person yet. This way I can see how they grow and I'm thankful. fb isn't the same. If I knew someone was pitching out the photo card I sent, I wouldn't bother sending one again. It's a thoughtless thing to do.

I save all my Christmas cards and a lot of others too. And no I don't have clutter everywhere. I just have a couple boxes under the bed. Now and then I go through cards and letters and throw some out, but most I keep. These things mean something to me and may to someone else when I'm gone. When my mother died suddenly, I was thankful for her letters and my father gave me back the ones I wrote to her.

Keep the ones you like digitally, then put yourself on the "digital" list. I have SO many friends and family that send digital holiday cards and school photos. LOVE them, I can look at the photo, and delete OR I can put it on my snapfish and have it added to my prints and have the photo for a few cents OR I can simply store it on my photos drive and keep it for possible future needs.

I keep my favorites.

The other thing you could do is scan them in to your computer. Then you have them, but you can pitch the hardcopies.

I posted mine of FB a while back after my mom passed away. I had relatives coming out of the woodwork teasing each other about their elementary school pictures. It was so much fun getting caught up in the camaraderie. I think that putting them someplace like that would let you know if there is any interest. Then if someone wants their own pictures back I'd just let it go and send back to them.

OMG. I am going through the same thing! I feel guilty ditching innocent faces. But knowing I'll get another batch the next year, kind of, sort of helps! That and when I decide to do a clean sweep!

I pitch most of them. I know, I feel bad sometimes. If the picture/card is set up where I can easily cut out the Christmas part of it, I will cut out the snowman and hang the "regular" picture on the fridge or on the bulletin board. But if it's too christmasy, it's trashed by mid-January.

I purchased a holiday album from somebodies school fundraiser years ago that was especially for those family photo greeting cards. I slide them in there and display it during the holidays and pack it away with the rest of the decorations. It just filled up and I'll be on the hunt for another one!
