Hi,
My 4 year old daughter has a greenstick fracture tibia. She is currently in a leg cast (from her toes to her thigh). She is doing great with the cast and is in good spirits. I am just wondering about treatment after the cast. Does anyone have experience or know if she will be in a brace or if she will be good to go? Im just trying to think ahead as we have a vacation planned that will be right after her cast is off. (we made the vacation plans before she fractured her tibia).
Thanks!

ps....I have an appointment with the ortho monday. So hopefully I will get more answers then. Just anxious to find out.

What can I do next?

When my son fx his, @ 3 , he was in a cast for about 8 weeks ( had to get it replaced twice, b/c was running on it so much, he wore it out). We didn't have to do anything after the cast, except follow up visits with X-rays.

It just depends on where the break was. When I broke my leg learn my ankle when I was younger I had the long cast on and then they put me in a walking cast. After that they put me in a brace. I know some they put in walking boots. It all depends on the dr.

My daughter ran out of the orthopedists office as soon as her cast was removed!

My 2yr old has a fractured tibia right now. She was walking on the cast within a week. Based on how she's moving around, we have no plans for aftercare when she gets the cast off on Monday.

So I think it depends on how severe the break is. But really, your daughter will let you know on her own how she's doing.

For us, there will be no follow up therapy.
