Fort Worth Hospitals
New to the area and looking for a good hospital to deliver at. Does anyone have a preference between the hospitals in Fort Worth? The ones I am looking at are Baylor Southwest, Harris Southwest, and the new Baylor- Andrews Women's Hospital.

I highly highly recommend Baylor downtown St. Andrews hospital. I delivered my daughter there before it was the new hospital and the care and staff there were beyond exceptional. I have been in 3 times for this delivery and everyone is great. I'm delivering in the new hospital in 3 weeks and I can't wait. It is even better. The rooms are way bigger than other hospitals, they have somewhere for daddy to sleep besides a hard let out couch, there is beautiul art, and more than one t.v. in the delivery room so everyone can relax. The post partum rooms are equally as nice. Also, its not hard to get in the building or a long walk because they have complimentary valet right there at the door.
On the flip side I had a friend that delivered at Harris SW and she said it was ok but she would never go back. They also put you out really quick at crazy times. She came in at 7p.m. on one day and they told her to go home at exactly 7p.m. the next. Thats just crazy.

Harris downtown is the very best, but my daughter has delivered 3 children at Harris Southwest and loves it. Her doctor, Dr. Alexis, also has an office there.
Best wishes,
M.

I can honestly tell you Harris has the best nurses. I have worked for Harris for 10 years. Harris Southwest is where I delivered my daughter 14 years ago and I had a wonderful experience. In fact, the care I recieved is what led me to look into a career there. After a few years, I transfered to Harris downtown. The labor and delivery department is still one of the best in the nation; the nurses exceed on so many levels those you might find elsewhere. Andrews Women's center is very pretty; but they do not have the experience that you will find at Harris. Good luck!

Hi A.,
I delivered at Harris Southwest in December and had a great experience. My doctor was great (it was a scheduled C-section due to breech baby) and all her surgical staff and the nurses were very reassuring and knew their stuff! I also had a c.version there (where they try to turn the baby around from the outside) and that nurse was great too.
On the other hand I assisted a friend through her entire labor at Baylor Southwest and their care was great as well. I've also heard negative situations come out of both! Guess it all depends on your situation and who you end up with on their shifts. :)

Harris SW is wonderful

I have been in Baylor SW 3 times with excellent experiences every time. 2 times for the deliveries of my 2 boys, and 1x in the prenatal wing when I had kidney stones during the 6 month of my first pregnancy. My best friend had 3 experiences there as well that were all wonderful (2 deliveries and once for pneumonia during one of her pregnancies). The drawback about no NICU is true, but I had very healthy pregnancies and was willing to take the chance; but these hospitals do transfer to Cooks Childrens in case of emergency, you just would not be with the baby until you're discharged and can then go stay at Cooks with the baby. I absolutely love how easy it is to get in to the smaller hospitals, and so much more visitor friendly for after the delivery.

From my own experiences I am inclined to agree w/ Michelle. I have had 3 c-sections at Baylor downtown. My second, w/ my son, he had to be in the NICU for 48 hours. All turned out fine, it was a routine c-section issue, but the neonatologist Dr. Porter was fabulous!!! Had I been at one of the closer more convenient hospitals Harris SW or Baylor Cityview, he would have been transferred downtown & I would have been left there. Totally unacceptable!! So, when we were surprised w/ one last addition to our family & I had to look for a new OB since mine had retired after my third, I looked for someone to deliever at Baylor downtown. I just feel more secure knowing we're covered for whatever could happen. I also have heard wonderful things about Harris downtown(I was born there!!!) good luck!

I recommend the Andrews Women's Hospital. My family has had a LOT to do with bringing this hospital to reality. We have a lot of women and female children in the family so it was important to us to have this hospital built. It is awesome inside and all of the doctors and nurses that I know that work there are excellent. The post-partum rooms have Murphy beds for daddys to sleep on, rather than the fold out chair like most other hospitals and the labor rooms have multiple jets in the shower to help with back pain from labor. Hope this helps! Good luck!

new baylor over harris sw!
id have taken the old baylor over harris sw! ive delivered at both.
the nuesery nurses at harris sw are awful. i had 2 babies needing icu services there. they made me feel like an intruder when i visited my baby, and esp. when nursing him (when they finally let me). my labor nurse told me she had 7 kids all natural and i could do it, as i insisted on an epidural. she said i was a "wimp". awfuk-hope you can avoid her! the other time they almost missed my delivery!
