Formula Advice - Smyrna, GA
Would you recommend Nestle Good Start Supreme for a fussy, crying, gassy baby???
I have tried Enfamil lipil and Nutramigen. My baby has GERD, is on prevacid twice a day, and is a VERY unhappy eater - help!!!
So What Happened?™
Thank you to everyone for their responses and advice. I switched my 10 week old baby to Nestle Good Start, it has only been 2 days, so far so good. One thing that concerned me though was he had a dark green/ blackish poop this morning. Could it be the change in formula? Is it from the NGS formula? Anyone else experience this?
My baby seems content, and he doesn't have a fever.

I highly recommend Nestle Good Start. I put both my kids on it when I supplemented between breastmilk feedings, and they did MUCH better on it than anything else I tried. Give it a try, and give it a few days before you decide - it takes a while for the other stuff to get out of their system.

I don't know if it helps but my son was on Similac Isomil. He had problems when he was born with formula and couldn't take the regular Similac. He also had reflux and was on Zantac. Even after the medicine he still spit up but not as much.
Hope this helps a little!

A.,
I would HIGHLY recommend this formula. Both my daughters had acid reflux, very badly. My first daughter took the Nutramigen and it worked great for her, now my second daughter had the reflux also, but he Nutramigen did not work for her. Someone told me about the Nestle Good Start, and I noticed a difference immediately. I loved it, and she obviously did too!! Good luck, any other questions, feel free to email me!!

I swear by it! I had a VERY colic baby and I tried everything from the most expensive brand formulas that are designed for colic and the only thing that gave my little one comfort was Good Start. And that was years ago they have improved the formula! I also used Mylocon I used so much that I would just by the generic Wal-mart brand it worked just as well but a lot cheaper! It isn't bad for them u can use it as often as you like since it isn't absorbed into the bloodstream it just coats the stomach it passes right through! Good Luck

First I think it may be worse to keep switiching formulas often. And have you considered that it may be that he is getting to much air from the bottle your using? Or maybe that he needs to be burped a little longer? I recommend using the Playtex nurser..Im using that now..with the bags u put in there. It sounds expensive but you can rinse the bags out a couple of times and at eckerd by husband bought a 125 count box and it has lasted me a long while and they will prob hold me till he's off the bottle since he eats more food than bottle. My baby is also on similac advanced but from what I'm told its just about the same as enfamil with lipil. Also another tip that would help is to buy those baby gas drops....their safe enough to use before and or after each feeding and they work pretty fast. But if your baby is still having alot of trouble u should call u doctor and request something else. My doctor just hates seeing babies suffer....he would do anything to ease my babies suffering and when my baby was in the same boat as urs, instead of suggesting different formula he prescribed Zantac 15mg giving 0.6 ml every 8 hours along with Metoclopramide 5mg 0.4 ml every 8 hours and it helped immediately. Maybe u could write this down and ask ur doctor about it. I still have alot left over from my babies pres. so that tells u that it helped a whole lot with the first dose and he didnt have to take it very long. Also it helps to prop them up after eating, that also helped my baby alot.

Hi A. L.
Sounds like your baby needs a lactose free diet and I found when my son was a baby that using the formula already mixed in the cans was also easier for him to digest..Don't know why, but he did not throw up half as much of formula as he did when I mixed the exact same formula. We also used rice cereal in milk as well everytime we fed him.
Hope this helps.

When my son was born he had a digestion problem and even breastfeeding didn't agree with him. My Ped put him on Similac's Alimentum. It's expensive, but I swear by it. After one bottle my son was a totally different baby. He was on the special formula until he was 4 months old and then switch to regular formula without any problems. He is now 2 y/o and eats everything.
Hope this helps!

My son was premature and had GERD as well. In addition to medicine to empty his stomach he was also on Previcid. He was on Nutramigen and it worked well for him. Our doctor also told us to feed him more but less each time and keep him vertical for 30 minutes after eating. Not fun, but it worked. He spit up until he was 1 but at least he wasn't fussy anymore.
