I've read that you can make the formula ahead of time and let it sit and the bubbles will go away. It is the shaking that causes the bubbles and both types are supposed to be shaken. Good luck!

I don't think there's a difference in terms of gas. In general, pre-made liquids break down over time (particularly if they contain proteins, which infant formulas do, of course). They also require emulsifiers so they don't separate. I think the powder is best in that it is more portable and doesn't require refrigeration and doesn't spoil. The best nutritional supplements come in powdered form which is mixed with water at the time of consumption. You might want to look at adding a well made children's supplement to your formula - there is one made by the same scientist who developed Enfamil and ProSoBee, and a lot of moms report that the gassy feeling goes away. It's certainly worth a shot and is much much better than putting infants on anti-reflux medications.

I always used the powdered formula as it's much more economical. I just had to make sure to burp the girls, which I did anyway, every couple of ounces. For my reflux baby, I also had to make sure to add the Gerber gas relief drops directly to the formula. It's perfectly safe to use, and you only need a couple of drops.

The powder formula requires shaking to mix, therefore putting air in the bottle. If you are going to use powdered formula, put a drop or two of gas drops in the bottle, shake again, and then give to baby.
I used the ready to use with my son when he was a baby. It generally digested better. But powder is fine too as long as you the air out beforehand. :)
Hope this helps!

I found that with my son, the powder formula caused gas. He did much better with the pre-mixed liquid, and when I crunched the numbers, it wasn't really all THAT much more expensive. For us it was worth it for his comfort and the 'handy' factor. Good luck!

IMO, no. It's all the same stuff.

However, when you use the powdered, you do have to shake it, causing bubbles in the formula. Maybe that is the difference and what is causing the gas (?)

gas and stomach irritation will be the same between the 2.

It's the shaking that creates bubbles. I used gas drops in the bottles early on and then when I switched to the Playtex Drop Ins you can squeeze the excess air out of the bottle and that cut down on gas significantly. Now that I'm pregnant again, I hope to be able to breastfeed this time, but if I do need to use formula, I'm going straight to the Playtex Drop Ins and not even bothering with the Born Free bottles I spent so much money on.

The actual formula is the same, but just like others are saying, the powdered has more bubbles. I have only used ready to drink formula on rare occasions, but the directions say to shake the can before you open it, which can still cause bubbles. Have you tried stirring the formula to mix it up. It takes longer, but my best friend does it for her daughter who has reflux and it has helped tremendously.
