Forehead Thermometers

Both my 5 and 6 year olds have had the flu for over a week now. They both have asthma which compounded the situation. We have been to the doctor twice and the ER once during this time. (One has the flu, bronchitis, and an ear infection while the other has the flu with a sinus infection.) During this time of monitoring temperatures, I have decided I would like to buy a forehead thermometer. If any of you own one, could you give me some feedback on the brand, is it worth the money, can you recommend it, etc.?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if what I have is what you are thinking of getting BUT........

I have an Exergen Temporal Scanner (used on the forehead). It is an infared thermometer. I LOVE IT!!!! And my kids do too.

I used to take their temps rectally but no one likes that. I had an ear one but if you don't tug the ear just right it's not accurate. Then I found this. I think that I paid about $35.

You just hold in the button and slide it from the middle of the forehead to the temple. Release button....voila! Temp!

If the person is sweaty....you can also use it in the dip behind the earlobe.

I can't say enough good things about it. My kids (4 1/2 and 3) both come up to me and say...."Check my forehead".

Good luck with your sick kiddos. Hope they feel better soon.

I have the Exergen one too. It works great. It's worth the money. I threw away the ear one I bought because I kept getting wierd readings - I'm sure it was user error- it was difficult to do right. This is so easy and fast. I think I bought it at Target.

C.,

I bought one a few weeks ago at Wal-mart for $35. It has been worth every cent. My kids sure have been happier with this way.
Hope everyone is getting better!

Exergen from Walmart works wonderful for $35. We recently purchased #2 to have an extra. Much better than the ear one!
And fairly durable so far.

I'm not sure, but I think you're talking about those that roll across the forhead? My son's school is purchasing some, and they said you can just buy some from Wal Mart for about $40. I think we're going to be doing that too because it's so much more quick and convenient. I don't know about any particular brands, though. Sorry I can't help you there.

C., sorry to hear about your kids. I hope they get well soon. Thank you for asking this question. The ear thermometer is never accurate for me. My son hates having his temp taken too. I will definitely buy the forehead thermometer mentioned.
