i would LOVE your advice on tandem strollers... my brother will have a 24 month old and a brand new little one in january. i am looking to buy a lightweight tandem stroller suitable for their family and was wondering what worked better, side by side or in a row. also, if a seat can fully recline, does that mean it will accommodate an infant car seat? my brother also drives a little honda, so it cannot be so bulky it won't fit in a trunk. thank you all for your help, as you can see i am CLUELESS!

What can I do next?

Mine are almost a year apart and we had a Jeep tandem stroller which they loved because it has a steering wheel and makes noise, but I HATED it. It was heavy and hard to manuever and it had added weight from the toys on it. I do not recommend it!

My husband and I are due with our 2nd baby in November, and our 1st will be 19 months when this one comes along so we are definately looking for a tandem stroller. I haven't PERSONALLY tried any, but my sister has two: 1 side-by-side jogging stroller and 1 front-to-back stroller. Both her and my brother-in-law prefer the side by side jogging one.

They said it turns MUCH easier (it has 2 wheels in the back and 1 in the front. Yes, it can be a little wide in stores, etc but in general it has a lot better manueverability.

They've offered both to my husband and I and I think we're going with the side-by-side.

I have a Graco Duoglider and I like it pretty well. It actually folds up more compactly than my single stroller (as long as you remove the front canopy. The infant car seat fits in either spot. The back seat fully reclines and both seats have 3 and 5 point restraints. (The shoulder strap slides onto the waist strap near the buckle so you can use it for the infant and just the waist straps for the toddler). It's easier to maneuver when the larger child is in back because it's less weight on the front wheels which turn, but other than that no complaints. I haven't tried a side by side (I think those are better if the kids are the same age, I take care of my niece who is the same age as my daughter, they're now 2 1/2 and whoever is in back kicks the one in front, pulls her hair, etc, I switched to a wagon for them) I hope this helps

I have two little ones and we just bought a tandem stroller. I think it is by Graco and it is called a Duo Glider. We bought it at Target and it was only $130 which we didn't think was too bad. It folds down easily but not sure if it will fit in a car trunk as we have a van. It dosen't seem too bulky though.

I also purchased a front and back tandem stroller - absolutely HATED IT! It was very hard to push and maneuver around things. So I did some research and ended up with the Combi side by side stroller - LOVE IT! It is on the higher end, but for the amount that I use the stroller (my kids are 22 months apart) it was definitely well worth the investment. Good luck! And tell your brother good luck and congrats!

my oldest two are 16 months apart, and i purchased a graco double stroller, not the side by side kind but in a row, and i hated it, it was very hard to push because of the weight of both kids, didn't turn and was so much of a pain i didn't even use it. my best advice go slightly high end, the jogging type double strollers look much easier to use than my graco was. good luck.

We used one in which the seats were in a row. The front seat reclined a little, but not entirely. It folded up and fit in the trunk of my Camry with plenty of room to spare. The tandem strollers are more difficult to maneuver and may not fit in all doorways. I recommend you "try some out" at Babies R Us for the size and weight, but stay away from the tandem. Good luck!

I have a Sit and Stand Stroller by Babytrend. You can find one at Walmart. It's nice because it accomodates just about any standard carseat and the older child can either sit or stand in the back because there is a little platform to stand on and a bench to sit on. Also, when the baby is old enough, you can use the seat in front instead of a carseat. I really like it. I have a newborn and a four year old. Even though my four year old is old enough to not use a stroller, it is nice when we're out and about because she can jump on whenever she gets tired of walking.

Hi L.!

I don't have two children, but I babysat for a woman who has 3 kids. When sitting, I used the front-back stroller and had no problems moving around with it.

I worked retail for 3 years, and I HATED when people came in with the side-by-side strollers. They could never move around fixtures easily, and had a hard time getting through doors. They practically rearranged my store.

So I would defintely try some out, do some measuring and then decide!

Good luck!

I have a newborn and 2 year old. I actually did a lot of research and looking around to decide which to go with, and really everyone has their own opinion. But I ended up getting the duo glider by graco. There are different models some with basic features and some with all the extra features. It will hold an infant seat in the back, or in the front and back if it's a graco carseat. I love mine. It has a parent cup holder and storage for keys etc., which is a must, a huge storage basket that you can actually get to when the back seat is reclined, it can be lowered. And it's easy to move and fold. I think it must have been improved because I've used the older model and it was harder to move. I recommend checking out ebay, you get more choices of colors and styles, and usually better prices. Also to get an idea of features and color choices check out Graco's website. And the site will direct you on other places to buy them. And I personally love being able to just place the infant carrier in the stroller, and with a side by side you can't do that, and they usually don't have storage space, cup holders, trays, which are good for placing snacks?drinks. I could go on and on, but I definitely think the graco duo glider is great and priced well too.

I love my side by side stroller. My husband found a Baby Jogger stroller at a thift store for $40 and it's been the best this summer. It has 16" wheels and it folds up flat and you remove the wheels. My little girl was born in January and is on the little side so I had to fold up a towel to put under her. It has a harness restrait too. (I don't jog either) I took it to the County fair and it handled all the terrain. As a little infant using the current stroller with a sling and carrier worked best for me. My son was 19 months when my daughter was born.

I read some things about the "row" seating like arguing over who was going to sit in the front or back and I wanted a stroller that was going to last a while. The Baby Jogger Twinner will last a long long time, weight limit is like 100lbs. Finding a used one would definitely be ideal though unless money is no option!
