Food Keps Freezing in Fridge!!!
Everything is freezing in our fridge! I was told by someone most likely our thermostat is out, but does anyone know around the cost? I canpay for a service, but then I still have to pay to have it fixed and it may be cheaper just to buy a cheap fridge. We have a kenmore elite. Hope someone can offer a solution or advice

Is it in a certain part of the fridge? I would adjust the thermostat, and if that doesn't work, call sears.

There is a damper between the fridge compartment and the freezer compartment. When the fridge needs cooling the damper opens and pulls the cold air from the freezer for a certain amount of time. Turn the freezer slightly warmer and see if that solves your problem. Weird, I know, but a friend repairs fridges and he said that is one of the most common problems that can be solved with no money out of your pocket.

Food in freezers should be packed in there with little air space, but the opposite is true of a fridge...is there maybe not enough air flow around the food? Our 2nd fridge freezes in the back when we have lots of stuff in there, like before a party or something.

Mine does that when I have the fridge temp too high. My fridge is a Roper and is already 8 1/2 yrs old. I do have to make sure nothing is touching the top of the fridge/bottom of the freezer but keeping the fridge on a low 2/3 works for us. If it is the thermostat, it may cost about $100 but depends on how old your fridge is.

I'm assuming you've adjusted the temperature control and are still having the problem.
Is it still under warranty by any chance?

this happened to us for two reasons. once because i took the ice maker tray out and left it out as we didnt need ice. the second time it happened because there was an ice cube stuck behind the ice maker and it was not slid in correctly. the seal must be tight or it will freeze everything in the fridge. take a look.

I would first check that none of the kids messed w/ the temperature setting. Our fridge does this but only one drawer freezes the rest of the fridge stays just as it should. You could call and ask for an estimate and then decide whether or not it will be cheaper in the long run to just buy a new fridge if your fridge is old and in a month maybe two or even a year from now it might go I'd consider just getting a new one but if its fairly new it may be worth fixing depending on what you are told.

Where did you buy your fridge from??? Call them.
We use Sears. They are great and have annual maintenance plans... which includes repairs. Its well worth it.
We have made good use of it and them.
