We will be flying in July for the first time with our daughter she will be 14 months then. I'm very nervous, her father and I both suffer from horrible motion sickness, will she have it too? Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

I used to get motion sick too and even suffered from vertigo during a horrible head cold. I hated being groggy with the pills and needed to be able to function. My doctor recommended the accupressure bands. They work GREAT. You can find them at Walgreens in the same section as the dramamine. They are called Sea Bands. I haven't tried them on children, since I am the only one with the problem, but they would be a lot safer than medication. They have instructions so you can place them properly. Good luck!

yikes! good luck. I haven't a clue about the motion sickness, talking to your dr. is a good idea. I thought this might help. They will let you take milk through security, if it's in a sippy cup or bottle. Have 'em drink during take off and landing... Another thing that has helped us with our 2 & 3 yos was a new book or two on the plane.

I would be more concerned about pressure changes. Little ones do not know how to pop their ears. It is best to have daughter awake...esp during descent, to drink breast milk or from bottle or cup to try to pop her ears in smaller increments. Good luck. An airplane is such a boring confined place..take entertainment items for her.

I used to get car-sick as a child, but am fine on a plane. My one daughter also got car-sick when on curvy roads, etc., but she's fine on a plane. If she hasn't gotten car sick before, I would tend to think thet she won't have any problems on the plane either. Just bring things to keep her entertained...books, small toys, crayons and notebook. She'll be just fine!

I have terrible motion sickness as well and often use a "patch" (or dramamine to help while flying). However, my son has been flying with me almost once a month since he was 6 weeks old and has done fine. I always prepare a bottle for him to be drinking during takeoff and landing and have his pacifier ready. He's 10.5 months and we just flew from CA to ABQ today and he did great... slept the whole way! Make sure you are relaxed too and that will help! Good luck. :)

Check with your pediatrician, there are some medications, like meclizine, that can really help with vertigo and motion sickness in not only you and your husband, but might be safe even for a baby to take.

I was amazed to find out that when I started flying with my kids, my motion sickness went away. I was so apprehensive about flying with a child, that I didn't have time to notice the movements of the plane, etc. Our doctor advised us to give 1 tsp of Benadryl 30 minutes prior to the flight (it might help you, too!) It will calm your baby, and make the baby tired, without harming her at all. She will be calm and sleep, and you will be concentrating so much on her, that you will forget your motion sickness as well. I've NEVER gotten motion sickness on a plane since having children. Hopefully you'll be the same!

EFT is a wonderfully simple tapping technique for fears and phobias. I've helped many with fears of flying, etc. You can get more information at www.bobbiestasey.com
