Fluid Leaking from Breasts-not Pregnant?

Moms, about a week ago I posted because we are TTC and I thought I was pregnant. I had a whole host of symptoms, but one of the symptoms that really made me think I was pregnant was that I leaked some fluid from my breast. At the time, I was caught off guard and then squeezed the other breast...more fluid came out. Well, after several negative hpt's and a completely normal period, I still seem to have fluid in my breast if squeezed(I know, weird..I only squeezed them because I was so alarmed that this happened last week and wanted to see if it went away) Other things to know....I have 2 kids and never noticed this before around my period. This was just our first time TTC to conceive #3 so too soon to tell if there are any issuse with this, I have breastfed both my children but weaned my 2.5 year old when she was 19 months. My periods are normal. No other real symptoms but some lightheadedness within the last week(again, reason why I thought I was preggers) I've read about prolactin being an issue. Can anyone shed some light...I'm freaking out! Oh, I don't feel anything different(like lumps) in my breasts.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your responses moms!!!!!! I followed the advice to get my prolactin tested.....totally normal! I guess having some milk in your boobs if you have ever nursed is normal! I've also been thinking about making babies a lot lately, so maybe that got the girls flowing again! Oye, I was pretty worried! If you ever experience this, please feel free to contact me for some support and guidance! I love this sight!! xoxo

I think a lot of times after having children our hormones get terribly messed up. I know after my middle son I still gave liquid for three years. After I had my last son then I had my hormones checked and my hormones were really whacky. I started taking a few replacements and never had anymore leakage. I would call your doctor though.

Ok, very glad you said that you weaned a relatively short period of time ago. It is very, very common for you to still have milk in your breasts at this stage. I remember watching a plastic surgery show and the doctor made a comment about how he will find breast milk while doing augmentations on moms that quit nursing quite some time before their surgery.

If you have concerns though, give your doc a call. That's what they are there for.

You could go to your ob/gyn and ask to test your prolactin levels. If it's too high (hence lactation when you're not pregnant) you would have to take bromocriptine to lower it to the levels that you can get pregnant.
HTH
PS I have prolactinoma and after each BF I had to wait around 1 month to check my levels and get correct dose of bromocriptine.

Talk to your doctor. If you are still producing milk you may have a high prolactin level ..... Or possibly prolactinoma..... I agree with the other poster that you may need to take medicine to bring your prolactin level down so you can conceive..... However, I would take Dostinex over Bromocriptine. Dostinex is considered more effective with fewer side effects. Bromocriptine made me extremely ill.

By the way, we were also trying to conceive while I was taking Dostinex - took us only one month of trying (I had been on medicine
for a while). I was told I could not get pregnant without taking it.

Anyway, a visit to an endocrinologist could only help. No sense in trying to self-diagnose!

Best of luck!

At least call your doctor. I could still get a little fluid/milk out of one of my breasts for months after stopping breastfeeding, but I did ask the doctor about it and it's normal. However, it can also be a sign of other issues, and it has been awhile since you weaned -it can't hurt to check with an MD.

I did this one time and my doc checked my uterus and I had had a miscarriage at some point 8-9 months before and just had no idea. Talk to the doc if you can think back and think this might be the reason. I had a D&C and everything was fine afterwards.
