Fluid Behind the Eardrum

I have been having sever ear pain, but it didnt feel like an ear infection. I also have been having sinus issues. I went to Carenow last night and he told me I have sinus problems, no infection, and fluid behind my eardrums, but they are not infected. He gave me an anitbiotic and a steroid shot. I read online that the antibitoic coud make it worse. I am in so much pain, it is making me dizzy and keeps me laying around, an is giving me almost migrane like headaches. I have such a high pain tolerance but this is almost unbearable. Anyone been through this or have any suggestions? Thanks in Advance

What can I do next?

For the sinuses: get a neti pot, or even easier, the NeilMed sinus bottle. Get the saline packets also. It truly works wonders.

I know the pain you are experiencing. I had terrible ear infections as a child and still occasionally now. There is a prescription pain relieving ear drop that your doctor can prescribe. (When I was a child, my mother and grandmother used to warm olive oil and drop in my ear and hold it there with a cotton ball.) Once you get the fluid to drain, the pain will ease. Getting the fluid to drain has been well addressed in other postings. You could also place a warm compress on that ear to help alieviate the pain, too.

(The antibiotic was most likely in case of secondary infection -- your ears, if they don't drain soon!)

Best wishes for a speedy recovery,

My doctor recommended Sudafed for fluid in ears. It has always helped me more than anything else. My doctor also said to clear my ears a few times a day by holding my nose and then trying to breath threw my nose at the same time. That has helped too.

I can't take those sudafed type things so I take Musinex (1200 mg twice a day) and at night I take benadryl with it. This routine has kept me out of infections for years. I would NOT take an antibiotic for something that is NOT an infection.....ludicrous.
