I should probably know this, but does anyone know what kind of flowers these are? I see trees with beautiful rounds of flowers planted around them and was wanting to do that to my trees this year. I'm sure if I get close to one, I'll know what they are, but I just see them as I'm driving by and I think it is so pretty. Often times, they will alternate colors in the circle too. They are smaller flowers, so I'm thinking maybe they are pansies...not sure though. Thanks!!

P.S. I'm not talking about this year, I have just seen this the past few summers

What can I do next?

For what it's worth, pansies are usually planted early in the Spring (they prefer cooler weather). I've seen them in purple, white, yellow and orange. Impatiens are more of a summer flower that like shade. The colors I've used are white, orange, coral, red, magenta.

I'm sure if you Google either you'll get pictures & can determine which it is you like.

I've also used hosta around trees. They're a perrennial with long green or variegated leaves. They flower later in the summer and shoot out long stalks with smallish white flowers on them. They also like shade -- and grow like crazy over a couple of years. T

If you're seeing low mounds of summer flowers that are in the white, pink, red, violet and orange range, and they grow in shady areas under trees, they are probably impatiens. They are very pretty and popular. Be aware that they need regular water to look good.

They might be Impatiens. They like some shade and are often planted around trees. I doubt the are pansies, if they are growing throughout the summer.

If you're refering to this time of year, they could be crocuses (they are usually purple, yellow or white), as they are bulbs and are one of the first flowers to come up every spring.

The could also be pansies. The most popular variety is bright yellow with a purple center.

This time of year they are probably winter pansies. We buy the smaller variety for our house (I'm not a huge fan of the larger ones), and they are very pretty! Hope this helps!

During
the summer in north Texas you will see a lot of people use begonias under trees. They have small flowers in a mound in red, pinks and white. They can really take the heat. Some do better in sun and some are for shade. Petunias are also used a lot too.
