Flaxseed Safe During Pregnancy?

Does anyone have any good resources on flaxseed during pregnancy? I went to a Pregnancy class at the hospital on Saturday and they sang the praises of flaxseed for its Omega 3's, the fiber content, and the antioxidants. But when I look online, all I can find is that its not recommended for pregnant women because it can cause uterine contractions. I'd like to take it for the Omega 3's because fish just hasn't sounded appetizing at all lately and I know how important they are. Any recommendations for resources?

What can I do next?

I work in an OB clinic and asked our docs. They don't see why you couldn't eat things with flax seed.

I've never heard that flaxseed is not safe during pregnancy. In fact, I've heard the opposite-and it's so great for baby's brain development. If you heard it's praises at your hospital I say go for it! I took flaxseed oil during my pregnancy. My recommendation is to make a fruit smoothie in the AM or for a snack and add 1 Tablespoon to the smoothie. Your body will absorb more benefits from the oil as opposed to a capsule and this way you can't taste it.
Good luck with your pregnancy and of course I would check with your doctor before starting anything new.

Just a quick note - another source of Omega 3 is avocado.

I would ask your doctor about that one you don't want to get contractions or cause any harm to your baby or bring on preterm labor cause there are ways you can do that soo I just think that you should ask your doctor first.

Hi J.,
I haven't heard that Flaxseed isn't safe. I ate Flaxseed bars and would buy Naked juice, the have one kind that's high in Omega-3.
I have been taking Expecta, an DHA supplement from Enfamil ever since I had my baby since I am nursing. They are kind of pricey. Target has the best price at $10.99 for 30.
Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy,
S.
