Flappity - Flap Flap?!?!?

The subject line - is a funny way of saying -Why can't I have toned upper arms? :)

I went in search of a dress for a wedding I am going to attend. I knew that I would run into some sleeveless dresses - but after going out on the hunt, I was amazed and just how many dresses are sleeveless. UGH!!!

I have this personal hangup about keeping less than toned upper arms/triceps covered up. So I really wanted a dress with some type of cap sleeve or something. I am only a size 6/8 and have worked on the tricep area before, but have never really seen many results even after working hard at it. And with age, it's only getting worse - oy! :) I keep trying to push myself to go sleeveless, but then I crawl back into my "I need some type of sleeve" shell.

I guess I became even more self conscious about it b/c the other day when I was talking wtih someone, who I just happen to be sitting right across from (otherwise I wouldn't have notice), and she had on a sleeveless top and she was talking with her hands. Everytime she raised her hands and moved her arms, her upper arms were moving more than she intended.

So I wonder why more dresses don't have a cap sleeve or something? There are some with a cover up to add over the sleeveless dress, but if it's hot outside I don't really want to have on an extra layer.

BTW - I've decided I'm going to try doing pushups on a regular basis. :)

What can I do next?

I understand that wearing an extra layer can be uncomfortable if it's hot, but maybe something like this: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/betsey-johnson-lace-shrug/324...

I googled "lace shrug".

And, go to YouTube and search for "tricep pushups". They really do work!

Go to the sporting goods department and buy a pull up bar that goes in a door way. You dont have to do pull ups, just hanging from it several times a day for as long as you can stand will really help tone your arms.
It does not interfere with the door, and also comes in handy for hanging clothes on ;)

I don't have an answer on the arms other than exercise but I agree that SO many tops and dresses are sleeveless now. And when I look at women on TV like newscasters, etc., they all wear sleeveless garments, all the time. Even in the winter, it seems. I have never liked sleeveless not just because of the arm issue but also because most garments show too much bra strap or show the sides of the bra through the too-large armholes! So....tell your retailers you want to see more stuff with sleeves! I'm very much over the whole sleeless thing!

mine says more Flappity, Flappity, squish, flap, plup plup, and OW! cause I hit myself with it. I have really strong, well muscled bi-ceps, but I am over weight and all the c*** I accrued over the years hangs like baggage. I try everything nothing gets rid of it. I like you, dont like to look like Priscilla the HUN (Attila's sister). I always try to get a sleeved or capped sleeve dress. If I cant, I get a half shell short sleeve jacket. Are you in the wedding party? If not I think Jacket Dress suits are really sharp and I generally get lots of comments on them.

I feel ya. I never wear sleeveless and it seems EVERYTHING is sleeveless!

I don't like having bat wings. (even when there are NO sleeves involved!)

No good suggestions....sorry. But I know what you mean!

You can always get a cute cropped short sleeved sweater to go over the dress that you buy. They look cute with alot of things so you can wear it more than once too!

How about a lacey cover up or light shawl? I love those crocheted type little sweaters and things. Tricep push ups, dips and extensions really do help, but they take time and consistency. It's a tough area and one of the weakest areas of our body unless we work at it. Google some triceps exercises and buy some inexpensive hand weights to use at home.
