I'm wondering what is the best fitness center/gym in the Hampton Roads? I am looking for a gym with a variety of classes and one that has newer fitness equipment. A gym that is clean, in a safe area and one that is upbeat and motivating. It would be great if there is child care available. Please let me know what your opinions are, so I can begin deciding where I may want to join. Thanks so much!

Hi! You'll love it here. I would suggest the YMCA as there are locations in most of the cities and they have childcare. My best suggestion would really be to look near to the community that you'll be living in, Hampton Roads is quite a vast are and there are wonderful fitness facilities in each area, but once you know your neighborhood it will be easier to narrow the options. I belong to Inlet Fitness, but that's not helpful if you'll be living in Norfolk or Chesapeake or some areas of Virginia Beach etc.

Me and my family joined the YMCA. They have Childwatch ranging in hours, they have all sorts of classes and activities. The facilities are scattered throughout Hampton Roads, of course some are better than others. Right now the best one in my opinion is in Downtown Norfolk (I believe on Bute St). We signed up in Portsmouth near our house, but have been going to the Norfolk location because the facility is HUGE, childwatch hours are better and the childwatch facility is really large. I would suggest you check it out!

Check out www.ymcashr.org. This is where you will find all the Y's in South Hampton Roads. They have great programs for children as well as adults. You will also want to sign up for the Y Change program, it's free and a great way to learn nutrition and meet new people. I agree that Taylor Bend is one of the Best..It is in the Western Branch part of Chesapeake. Membership is just $82 a month for family, $75 joiners fee, no contract. You will have access to 15 YMCA's with your membership. If you would like more info, just let me know.
Good Luck

I love the YMCA. We go to the Newport News branch on Warwick Ave. at Huntington Park. They have child care and great child classes, and good classes for adults as well as fairly good equipment. We really like it.
