First Molar Cutting - a Graphic Scene
Hello, my son's bottom right molar bud was huge in Feb 08. On and off over the past 8 months, it threatened to cut with the typical swelling, redness, etc. Last week, there was a small blister at the top of the gum where it seemed the molar would break through. It didn't, and his gum went back to a light pink. Yesterday, the gum started to look red again. Today, the first layer of gum looked wide open and a bulge of dark red gums burst through. It was alarming, as if the tissue was so swollen underneath the first layer that there was no place for it to go. Tonight, the bulging dark red layer of gum broke, like a tear, and it was bleeding. I still can't see the molar! Is this normal because the surface area of the molar is so big? Could it be infected or impacted?
We did notice a small blister at the gum surface with every tooth that he cut to date. However, we have never seen his gum swell and break open like it has with this molar.

My understanding of teething is that it shouldn't involve blood. My son has cut 4 molars so far and none of them have involved what you're talking about.
Get him to a pediatric dentist post haste. Good luck. Poor little guy, that can't be comfortable for him.

It is probably an abscess. My son has one on his gums when he was little. We needed to go to the dentist, he said that it could affect the tooth, so they treated it first, then did a root canal, and it still came back, they pulled the baby tooth. Check with your dentist

My son bled when EVERY tooth popped through, so I wouldn't necessarily worry about the blood. But the fact that you are alarmed is reason enough to call your pediatrician. Good luck and I hope your little guy feels better!

That does not sound normal, get that kid's mouth checked out by his pediatrician!

My daughter's molars were similar. Hers turned bright purple and swelled really badly. They bled when the molars broke through...we could always see the tooth though. I would check with the doc just to make sure.

My suggestion would be to take him to the dentist to get that checked out. If it's been that long and ongoing, I wouldn't wait much longer. If he has something going on underneath his gums you don't want to put his permanent teeth in jeopardy. I hope he gets well soon, poor thing. I bet he's a strong little guy!!

I would call someone as well. I never had blisters with my daughter's teeth, so I can't give you ANY advice other than calling someone that would know! If you don't know of a dentist to go to...call your pediatrician and get in there. He may need to go on an antibiotic.
Good luck and good luck little guy!
