First Haircut - Goodyear,AZ

I'd say, when they can sit still long enough. My sons'first haircuts were by me w/ one of those do it yourself clippers w/ the one inch extension. By the time they were around two, both were able to sit in the barber's chair for haircuts...the barbers were amazed at how still they were. They pretty much sat stonefaced and quiet until their hair was done.

I think it is ok to take your child whenever you feel the child needs one. YOu may to to the child thre to watch and see what is happening to get out to the scariness of it, depends on your son. My sister-in-law took my nephew pretty much right after he was born as his hair was way past his shoulders at birth! HOw crazy is that, not to mention super cute... I took my son when he was close to one because he didn't have much hair. I took my daughter when she was 3 for her hair cut. It all depends on how long the hair is, how much it gets on your nerves to fix (especially for girls who don't want to put their hair up) and how much your child might be ready for it. My son never stops, but when it ocmes to hair cut time, he is so mellow and totally enthralled with the experience. He loves it! Every kid is different. Don't forget the camera and maybe someone to help take pics so you can help hold the baby becaue these are big moments for the baby book! You can also re-enact the experience for pics and no one will ever know if the baby squirms too much. Have fun with it; it is so cute!

I took my daughter to a place that made her feel like such a queen and they gave her the whole works with head massage and everything. She felt like queen of the world and lapped up all the attention. It was so cute hearing a 3 year old describe her hair as if she was a queen.

When he is old enough to sit still for more than a few seconds. Usually around 2 yrs old is a good starting place for boys. 8 months is definitely going to be too young.

Whenever you feel they would sit long enough for a hair cut! If you go in and they tell you they are too young, I guess that would answer your questions too! My kids would never sit until they were older! But if your 8 month old will sit on your lap or in a chair, then I am sure it would be fine!

I don't see a problem with it, my daughter had her first haircut at about 6 months. I took her to mop tops to have it cut.

I took my son at a year....but at the same time it was at a hairdresser friend's house, not in an actual salon.

It was rough, but it's still rough...he just hates it regardless.

I do my daughter's hair-cut at home. She was one when she got her first hair-cut. We used the hair-cut kit we bought from Costco. My daughter's hair growth was not good enough. So me and my husband together cut her hair first with scissor and then with the trimmer and when she was sleeping i shaved her whole head with an old shaving razor of my husband. I first shaved one side then i turned her and shaved other side of the head. Whole time she was sleeping and i did not get any trouble. I think you dont need to shave his head. I did because her hair growth was really bad plus she had a tiny bald spot in her head. Although shaving did not help the bald spot but i did all without a fuss. Now she is three and she got split hair and this sunday i trimmed her hair at home. I know she will create a scene at hair-cut saloon because she likes long hair. So i thought its easy to handle the kid at home plus it saves money. My husband distracted her while i was trimming her hair. So good luck for you and your kidoo!

I took my son at 8 weeks, he had lots of hair. We went to Snip-Its and they were great. They have special first hair cut packages and also specialize in only children so they have the patients for a crying baby. They also have very quiet clipers if you want a short style.

you're not going to believe this, but I took my son in for his first haircut at 3 months!! And if you ask me, I could have done it sooner than that. he was born with quite the mane. he just turned a yr. old and he's had a total of 5 haircuts! Bottom line: if you feel that your son needs a haircut, my advice is (naturally)go for it! At his age they will have you both put on the haircutting cape and you will probably need to hold him (upright, facing you but over one shoulder works best). Don't forget to ask for a certificate to celebrate this milestone. they can even give you a lock of hair. good luck!

If he needs a haircut, then it's OK. I have 1 and 2 yr old sons and I had to start trimming their hair at around 7-8 months. To avoid the trauma of being restrained in a chair at a strange place, I opted to do it at home and I'm still trimming their hair myself. It's not as daunting as you might imagine.

I use a pair of blunt edge bandage scissors (like nurses use) to reduce the risk of poking them with a sharp edge on a regular hair trimming scissor. I got them through work (I'm a vet tech) but I think you can buy them in the bandage supply section at Target or Walmart. I spread out an old bedsheet on the floor to make cleanup easier then I sit them in their high chair with a cookie to distract them. I trim while they're sitting still. If they start squirming around, I stop. I usually do slightly longer than finger length and just go section by section, trimming until all the hair is a uniform length. I'm not a barber, but their hair looks fine afterward. It doesn't have to be perfect. One of my coworkers takes her 3 yr old son to a children's barber and my boys' hair looks just as good as his.

If you're brave, it might be worth a try otherwise, my coworker recommends Little Chops. Best wishes! :)

It is "OK" when you are ready. I took my son to one of those kids hair cut places. He got to sit in a plain and watch a kids shows while I took pictures. They seemed to be more prepaired for kids moveing when they are cutting and patient if they have a meltdown. The only thing with this is it is more expensive, but I justified it with, it is fun for him and I have great photos for the scrapbook.:)

Wait to go to the barber shop until he can understand that he needs to sit still so he doesn't get cut or poked by the scissors. If his hair is extremely unruly and you feel you must do something soon I suggest that you look for a stylist that specializes in children and will take precautions to protect your baby.

whenever you want to! i don't trust myself with a pair of scissors, so I haven't ever cut my own children's hair. have fun!

My daughter had her first haircut at 3 years old, although we had her bangs cut at about 1 1/2 years to hide some stitches. My son had his first hair cut at 8 months! He had so much hair and we could no longer push it out of his face and there was no way I wanted to use product on his hair. I think it is much easier to get away with waiting for the first cut for girls because you can use barretts, etc to keep the hair out of their face. Be prepared for your little baby to look like a little man after the cut though! We love our little 'man's' look now. Cool Cuts has fun seats and videos to watch that kept him entertained during the cut. Plus mom was running around taking pics :-)

There are places designed for kids, but if you want to take them to an actual barber shop, I would just call around and ask :)

Both of my boys have very fine, thin blond hair and I got their first haircuts when they were 12 and 14 months old and it was basically to clean them up and trim off their wispy/longer hair over their ears and at the back. I felt silly, but they looked soooo much better afterward. I took a ton of pictures for the scrapbook too. I've taken my boys to the same hairdresser for 3 years now. They get to watch a video during the cut. She even has Baby Einstein which your son would like. Her name is Dawn Slaton at Savvy Scissors.###-###-####. Hi J.! This is funny, my son will be 6 (as in YEARS) next month and has still not had his first hair cut! Ok, it's not down to his waist or anything like that! I have cut his hair. He is terrified to get his haircut ever since we were walking in front of a barber shop when he was about 2. The barber came running up to us and said he was traing a new barber and could he give my son a 'free haircut'??? I think the fact that he ran up to us and scared him has made him afraid...to this day, when I mention he needs a haircut, he says he doens't want a 'free' one. Which is funny, because I cut his hair, so it is free!!!! He does need to go to a professional tho because it's thick and naturally curly like mine and he can only get away with it for so long! But to answer your question, you can go anytime he needs it cut!

I would think as soon as he needs one. We trimmed our son's hair ourselves for about a year. He had his first professional 'big boy' haircut last week, he's 2 years old. He wasn't scared at all, in fact he LOVED the experience.

My son's first haircut was done at a barber shop. You may also want to consider one of the kid's haircutting places. They're used to all of the moving and fussing of small children when they get their haircuts and they usually have cartoons/movies playing at each station to distract the kids. Good luck.

whenever you are ready is when it is ok. I got brave with my eldest when she was about 30 months old. She has very long hair and I was going to have them cut 2-3 inches, they got near her and I was no longer ready! They cut about 1/4 of an inch, enough to get some in the first haircut bag!

I also have a nine month old daughter. All her hair is even except one long piece in the back. My friend is always telling me to cut it. Maybe when she's 30 months!

My sister has been cutting my nephews hair since he was 6 months old. She has always taken him to a barber and he loves it.

my sons first cut was by me. I just used the clippers and still do. His first cut was when he turned 1. He screamed the whole time poor baby. Now I still cut his hair until he can say he doesnt like it and wants a different style.

I only cut my daughters bangs and she needs a trim so I will take her to the salon. Or I will have my mom do it.

I'd say whenever you'd like. The places that the other moms have mentioned are great. Hold him in your lap and don't forget the camera and to get that first lock!

i guess when they have enough hair to cut. my grandson is 14 months and he was finally getting knots in the back of hishead when he slept so he had his first haircut. our local barber offers free haircuts for a year after their first haircut. you get a picture a certificate and a little holder for the first locks and he puts a picture up on his board. both my sons had their first haircuts there and now my grandbaby is next to his daddy.

We did our boys first hair cut an their first birthday. As for the Barber, most wouldnt'even touch my kids hair till they where 2ish. I would call and ask stylist directly. Also Sports Buzz has fun things that the kids get to sit in. Goog luck.

I took my kids at 1 yr. My grandma always told me they wouldn't look like babies anymore after their first haircut, so that's why I waited until 1 yr.

OK? Whenever you say! My son has had four hair cuts now... maybe five actually and he is 15 months. I took him to Super Cuts the first couple times, then decided to go with a more kid-friendly place on Baseline and Val Vista called Lolli Locks - Shara does a great job! I did have one bad experience there so be sure to ask for Shara if you go :) they made up for it of course with a free cut... thankfully his hair grows like a weed!

Whenever you feel it is necessary. Take lots of pictures.

Hi J.. He is still just a baby. Let it go for as long as you can. When it is longer you will have plenty to cut off and save for his baby book. When you do have it cut...make sure the barber specializes in little kids.
As a mom I would even do some observing if I could first.
Find somebody you like. If your stylist works with little kids, great. 8 months old is still a baby. Try to hold out until next summer. Have fun. He only has baby hair once.
