First Communion Dress Shopping

Hi Everyone,

My 8 year old daughter will be making First Communion this year in May. I am tempted to just purchase a dress online. I've looked in Dillard's so far (just passing through the store) and there isn't much available...maybe it's a bit early yet. She is not into dresses at all so I am looking for a simple, satin gown with no frills, lace or anything like that. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go?? Thank you in advance!

J.

What can I do next?

Thank you everyone for your wonderful suggestions!! I will take a look around all of the places you suggested.

I have noticed that JC Penney's usually has a decent selection, but when my daughter needed a First Communion dress, we got it online and had no problems at all. It fit perfectly and was a good quality. I also have a "not into dresses" girl! Good luck!

I was just in Little Amici consignment shop in New Tampa and saw quite a few dresses. You might even try the high end consignment stores.

Hi my name is S. and I hope to help you out with your shoping! Have you tried to take her to the out let off of 75 to the kids gap? or how about the limited in the mall? kids don't like Dillards they arn't in style for that age. Also an eight year old needs to try things on so online wouldn't be the way to go. Do you know where the out let mall is? they have great prices and also she could wear nice pants and a top it doesn't have to be a dress. Also what size does she wear this will help me out alot. THanks S.

Hi, I know Burlington Coat Factory in Clearwater had a very nice selection of dresses for a better price than Dillards. They had ones with bead work, frilly, also the tiara's, gloves. We bought my daughters Christening dress there. Sometimes you can even get them on Clearance for a great price. Good luck.

I'm not sure what Dillards you looked at but, when I was looking for my sons baptism outfit I found that the Dillards at Coconut Point had a much larger selection than the Dillards at Edison and Naples Mall. Not sure why.... I haven't been in there lately but, if your in the neighborhood you might want to pop in there. You might also be surprised that places like JC Penny's usually carry the same ones at Dillards and Macys. I'm not a huge fan of all the frills either but, unfortuneately that seems to be whats out there. Good Luck. I hope your daughters communion is a special day for her and your family.

check target kmart or walmart on line they should be showing easter outfits that may help you our JC Penney

I don't know how far you are from 49th ST in St Pete but I saw some at a consignment shop called Kiddy Korner on 49th St and like 46th Ave N... they were covered in Plastic. I didnt look at them closely but from where I saw, they were either new or almost new.

Call around before you go wearing out shoe leather!! :)

best wishes,
M.

Hi J.!

Congratulations! Can you believe your little one is old enough for 1st Communion? That's how I felt when my son made his and now my daughter will next year! Can't believe it. We bought his suit at Kohl's Department store, but I don't remember if they had dresses. Where I did find the most beautiful dresses was Nordstrom. I really think I also saw dresses at Sears too. Suits are no where near as fun as dresses! Have fun, good luck and I hope the day is beautiful for you and your little girl!

Give it a few more weeks, once the Easter dresses start to come in you will see more variety. When I worked at Dillards a few years ago they had a nice selection, because women also want simple white dresses for flower girls.

Try a Catholic store I think there's one at Clearwater Mall. I have seen them there.
