My 2.5 year old son LOVES anything to do with firemen and fire trucks. I'd love to take him to a fire station to meet the firemen and see the trucks up close. Does anyone know of any fire station open house or event where firemen will be present in north Oakland County (we're in White Lake) going on anytime soon or over the summer? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Last year I took my son to "Tons of Trucks", an event at Clintonwood Park in Clarkston, off Clarkston Road. There were fire trucks, police trucks, tow trucks, ATF trucks, bulldozers, John Deere tractors, and many other fun things. The kids were able to wait in line and sit in all the vehicles (there were so many different vehicles, that the lines were not too long). They're holding it on August 9th this year. My son was only 8 months old at the time, but he had a blast! We cannot wait to take him again this year! I know it's not a firehouse openhouse specifically, but both the trucks and firemen are there, as well as many other trucks. It's fairly inexpensive too - just a few dollars per child, adults are free. I highly recommend it!

Walled Lake Fire House has an open house sometime in the fall, not sure exactly when, but you could contact them to find out.

Farmington Hills' open house is May 18th from 12-4. It is in the parking lot of the city offices. (corner of 11 mile and orchard lake road). We had the BEST afternoon there last year. They have the fire trucks, police, motorcycles and the constructions trucks out and u can sit in them. It's all Free except food and drinks. Let me know if anybody else responds with other info. I wouldn't mind going to different ones all summer! S.

call your local station and ask if you can come by. We just went today to Oxford Fire Station. (Take a home made goodie for the fire fighters.)

The chief came out and told my twins all about the trucks, and they got to sit in an ambulance and a truck, and he turned on the lights! Then, he gave them each a hat and a sticker! My son was a little quiet, then he really got going and loved it. They are almost 2-1/2. (bring the camera!!)

Its quieter for kids this age than an open house --(competing w/older kids). Also- Lake orion has a BIG RIG GIG in august - in friendship park. All kinds of trucks are brought in --every kids dream. Its called something else in Oxford--so check with your community parks and rec to see if they offer something similar. Lastly--every halloween after trick-or-treat most fire stations offer cider and doughnuts, and a chance to see the trucks up close.

hope this helps!

Hi J.-

My husband is a firefighter in Waterford! They do have an open house, not sure exactly when. But, you can take them to the station (on Cresant Lake Rd in Waterford) at anytime. Anyone there can show him the trucks (weekends and afternoons are probably best). I have a 2.5 year old boy (and 8 month old daughter and live in White Lk, lol) too, he is crazy about the trucks too! So we visit often as well! Everyone there is really good with the kids, they have people stop in all the time!

I would just call the White Lake Fire Station and ask them if there is a time he can stop by to meet some fireman and see a truck in person. My Dad was a firefighter for over 20 years in Highland, and they always welcomed those kind of visits(call first incase they have a training) I believe White Lake probably is full time and volunteer, meaning someone should be there during the day if they are not on a call. When we first moved to Springfield Twp, we met a couple of firefighters who told me I could stop by anytime with my daughter because the more exposure she had the less affraid she would be if we ever needed them.

I know that the Commerce Township Fire Department has an annual Fire Station Open House the first weekend in October. I have 6 year old twin boys and have taken them for five years now. They get to talk to the firemen, climb in and out of all the trucks, sit in the front seat, they even get to squirt the hose! They love it! Also, their elementary has a Welcome Summer Ice Cream Social and the White Lake Fire Department comes there for the kids to squirt the hose. Dublin Elementary. I am pretty sure that if you just called the Fire Station, they would give you a tour. I know Commerce does that, they have full time fire fighters there and they are all real nice. Hope this helps your little guy.
