Finding a Lump 1 Week After Mamogram?

Ok, I am 40 and had my first mamogram last saturday. Today I feel a lump. My husband and I are wondering if it's a bruise...had anyone else had this? It's at the top of my breast, almost could be considered my chest, right where that mamogram machine hurt the most. I was very sore there for a few days after the test. Just the other day I got the letter from the lab saying everything came back fine.

It's about marble size. I can't imagine something developing that fast and that big in 1 week? My brain says it's a bruise and just keep an eye on it...but I'm still worried. (No history and no risk factors at all). Oh, and I will be getting my period this week too, so I wonder if that could also play a part here.

Anyone had a similiar experience? Should I call someone or wait?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Well I called my OB/GYN who originally ordered the mamo and of course she said come in. She could feel the lump too and sent me for an ultrasound. She agreed that it could have been the trama of the mamagram caused the breast tissue to form a "whatever" (some big long word). I went for the ultrasound and the tech said she didn't see anything, probably just some fatty or fiberous tissue but the doctor on staff would look. That doctor agreed there wasn't anything there to worry about, just fatty tissue. She didn't agree with my theory that the mamo caused it, but I know my body and I am convinced the trama of being squished so hard caused it. But bottom line, I did get it checked out and all is OK.

Definitely could be some swelling from getting ready to flow, my boobs always got sore and hard spots often right before my period. You are probably just ultra aware of your breasts right now because you just had the mamo.
Give it another week and if it doesnt go away you better make another appointment just to relieve your stress.
Congrats on your negative mamogram, I just had one 3 weeks ago and stressed out till the results came back ;)

Why not call the doctor's office and ask? You're too busy to be chewing your fingernails over this. If it's nothing, you won't need to give it another thought. If it's something to worry about, you're catching it early. That's a win-win situation.

I'm a breast cancer survivor so I have a soapbox about mammograms and checking on yourself. But you've had your mammogram so instead of soapboxing I'll award you a (virtual) medal instead! :^)

Call your doctor and speak with him about. It maybe just bruised tissue from where the machine pressed your breast hard. These things are not the most pleasant of things to have done but we do do them.

Keep an eye on the lump for the next two weeks for any changes in size or feel from being sore to a hard lump with no feeling to it. (Breast cancer survivor 13 years). Get to know every area of your breasts from dimples to odd shapes and such so that you will know if something does not feel right. If I had not known that what I felt was not right I could have lost my whole breast or possibly my life as the longer you wait the more things can spread.

Keep us posted. Put some hot sauce on the fingernails so you don't bite them off and relax.

The other S.

PS I got to call for my annual mammo.

It definitely sounds like a bruise to me, as another breast cancer survivor (and congrats on getting the mammo, good for you!). And since it's the beginning of your cycle, that can be a factor too. You always want to wait through menstruation whenever you find something funky, so after your period is over, check again. If it's still there, then call the doctor. Chances are it will diminish before then. Just remember how delicate breast tissue is, and this is the first time it's been so squashed, it makes perfect sense that something got tweaked, especially if it hurt in the same spot during the test.

I would call the clinic where you had it done and ask them. This may be something that happens often.

My mom is a breast cancer survivor so if there is one thing I don't mess around with its my breasts. I will start having mammograms when I turn 30 in April because there is family history. I would call the doctor if for any reason to help your worrying.

Have you received your mamogram results back yet? I went in for a pap, felt/found noththing. Then went in 1 week later for mamo and that showed a lump. (long story short, they ended up removing it and everything is normal). My point is a lump can appear at any time. It's better to be safe than sorry. I would go back to your doctors and have your OB look at it.
If you don't have your health what do you have?
Oh, and pray! I will be praying for you as well.
