We purchased one for our daughters room.
We used a Hunter Air machine..
You change out the filters about every 8 weeks.. Down here it is so dusty and pollen filled air, we at high times had to change it every 3 to 4 weeks. Made a huge difference.

We took down the drapes, got rid of the carpets and tried to keep her door closed when she was not home. We made it a sanctuary. so she could sleep at night. .

Any diagnosed triggers?

Any HEPA filter should help IF the asthma is triggered by allergens. We use the Filtrete HEPA filter. http://www.amazon.com/3M-FAP01-RS-Filtrete-Ultra-Quiet-Pu... I like, but the filters are expensive and can be hard to find.

Being an asthmatic myself, my first question was what are her triggers. Asthma is a chronic illness that has different triggers for different people. Dust may or may not be a big trigger (huge for me), so the suggestions by the other moms are good ones. For me, personally, I have a hard time breathing when I have a cold, and not just because I'm stuffed up. So, an air humidifier is actually helpful for me (but not all asthmatics). Pay attention to how your daughter's breathing is during the change in seasons too to see if you need to increase/decrease the intensity of cleaning to help her. Good luck! :)
