Fifth's Disease " Slapcheek Syndrome" Advice/experience During Pregnancy

I am wondering if anyone has gotten Fifth's Disease while pregnant and had a good outcome etc. I was told this morning by another parent at my child's school that their child came down with this and now the whole kindergarten class has been exposed to this very contagious virus! I haven't seen any symptoms in my kids but am watching for it. My understanding of it is that the incubation period is 4-10 days prior and so we would have been exposed around then and wouldn't know we have it until we experience the red slapped looked cheeks, or lacy rash on the body, fever etc. The likelyhood of experiencing a severe case is very low, but can be fatal for the fetus when pregnant. So, I am concerned and just hoping there might be some other moms who have gotten a case of this and turned out fine as well as their babies??? Thank you...

I asked my parents and they didn't think that I had. I am not sure if I have had it or not. I called my OB and they may do a blood test to see if I have had it in the past. I am 13 weeks. I am praying that I don't get it.

What can I do next?

The very critical time is during the 1st trimester. I do know of a friend that lost her baby in the first trimester as a result of fifth's. It's not as dangerous to the fetus in the last two trimesters.

Your doctot is the person w/the best advice. Make an appointment for blood work & to see your OB to get help. I got it from family members between pregnancies. my joint really hurt & I was exhuasted. Can't remember how long it took til I felt better. My sister who had it was on steroids from her doctor. My doctor put me on a regime of tylonal every 4 hours which helped but my sisiter healed fatster. look.Best of luck!

Most adults are immune to it. However, I would definitely urge your OB to evaluate you further. Best wishes.

Do you know if you ever had it yourself? It is one that you can only get once. I would ask your parents and see if they might remember.
It went around here. My daughter got it first, followed by me then one of my sons a little later. My other son never got the rash. My husband didn't get it either, he might have had it as a child. Some children never show any symptoms even if they get it. I hope you had it as a child or that you don't get it. I was miserable! I wasn't pregnant thankfully but I know the harm it can cause if you are pregnant. I would call your OB and tell them you were possibly exposed and see what they recommend. All the best!

Can you go take a vacation or go to your mom's house or something to get away from the house/kids/germs for a week?
