I had many fibroids. They never caused me any problems and I never had any bleeding. I did not even know I had them until I became pregnant with my first son. I was told that the hormones from the pregnancy would cause them to grow larger.
had them removed about 6 years ago at the advice of my Dr. He thought it was best that I did not go into another pregnancy with the fibroids as my last pregnancy was high risk (but it was not because of the fibroids).
My insurance paid for the operation and I had no out of pocket cost at all.

Don't panic! I had them and only chose a hysterectomy when I couldn't take the heavy bleeding anymore. I was alot older than you. The doctor was in no hurry, but I begged for the hysterectomy.... but I was done having kids. So, relax. Get yourself to the doc and talk to him. Most probably you can wait if you are willing to put up with the heavy periods. This is very common.

I found out I had fibroids when I was 12 weeks pregnant. Mine grew large while I was pregnant so I had to have several ultrasounds. I had my dghtr with no complications. My Dr said the fibroids should shrink after I gave birth but they didn't they doubled their size & my uterus was the size of a 6 month pregnancy so I looked very pregnant especially since I am only 5'1. I went on the pill to try to control the pain & bleeding but that made me gain 18 pounds in 4 months. My Dr recommended a hysterectomy but I got a 2nd opinion & decided to have a myomectomy which is removal of the fibroids & left my uterus in tact. The surgery was in November & I walked out of the hospital 10 pounds lighter & since November I have lost 20 pounds. I feel like I am getting back to myself now. And my periods & pain isn't so bad anymore.

I would say if your Dr recommends a hysterectomy you should get a 2nd opinion. You are still young & deserve to have all the options given to you. My Dr only did hysterectomy's so that's the only reason why she only gave me that as an option.

Try a forum called hystersisters.com it's just like this website but it's all about woman's health . Best wishes

Hi Missy. I have/had 4 fibroids. I was put on the pill and it was shrinking them quite well.. so well that I ended up getting pregnant (on the pill!!). The were concerned that the fibroids would limit the room in my uterus for my baby because they are supposed to grow during your pregnancy. But my own hormones actually made them continue to shrink - so much in fact that my last para-nato visit, the doctor could only find one of them.

I am 41 btw and they told me I most have had these fibroids for at least 5 years based on my gyno history.

I hope yours act the same way my did. I have been told mine would have been removed if the hormones had not shrunk them - matter of fact at week 16 of my pregnancy they had already scheduled my C-section because they intended on removing the fibroids then. I did not end up having a C-section. So there is a lot of hope for you!!

I had them and recently had my second hysterectomy-yes second. I had my first one later and then I left one ovary and it grew stuff (they called it a mass) well same difference it grew and had to go. But I have my kids and the only reason I had the first one was because of the heavy bleeding. I think there are other options now to clean fibroids out and still have everything to go for babies-check with your doctor. The fibroids might make you feel full and/or look bloated but it won't hurt as far as that goes. Talk to your doctor!
