Fever at 3 Months

What are some natural ways to help my baby become more comfortable if he should have a fever?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks for all of the advice. I have spoken with my doctor and if his fever were to reach over 100.4 for over 4 hours I would take him in. A cool cloth, and/or a lukewarm bath was recommended to make him more comfortable.

Cool wash cloths applied under the arms and around the head and neck and a fan in the room.. not blowing on the baby directly but close by enough to keep cool air moving over him.

D.,

Have you ever heard of Ear Oil? Most fevers in children under 2 years is caused by ears. You can get it at any health food store or even make it yourself. Just heat up some oil (olive is good) and 'steep' several cloves of garlic in it...probably for as long as you can.

Then fill the ear canals with the oil and put in a cotton ball. The antiviral/antiseptic properties of the garlic will pass by the tempanic membrane and get that fever under control.

Blessings! Hope baby finds relief!

If your baby has a fever he should be seen by a doctor, especially one so young. Your doctor could reccomend something natural for the fever. If not, you need a new doctor!

Cool baths and washcloths are the easiest/safest (in terms of no side effects), there are also homeopathic fever aids that are safe in children, but I am not sure I would use them on a 3 month old. Are there any other symptoms or is this a hypothetical (so you are prepared) fever? It also depends on the severity of the fever. If you are talking a low grade fever (under 100) you can probably get by with doing nothing unless the baby seems uncomfortable. Usually fevers are just the alarm for something else that is wrong... In my case it was mostly teething, but also can be infection so if it doesn't go away in a day or two, definitely see a doctor.
Hope this helps and CONGRATULATIONS!

If you want to bring the fever down because it is way too high and tylenol isn't helping, or you don't want to use medications, my mom always gave me a "lukewarm" bath (which seemed cold to me). Try to time is so you give during a hot flash, not the shivers so it feels soothing and they don't fight as much. Cool water applied to the body through wet towels can also help through the same process of cooling the skin. All the tiny little capilaries in the skin and outermost body parts (and head is good too) cool down, thus cooling the blood which gets pumped into the rest of the body cooling the internal stucture and organs bringing the the overall body temperature down. The hottest blood from the inside gets pumped outwards, cooled, then pumped back in and so on. This also works for adults in the summer to cool your body down and stop sweating!

You say "if" he has a fever, you really need to know the reason he has a fever. And DO NOT heat up anything and put in a child's ear, you could damage the eardrum. You should be talking to your peditrician. The Doctor can recommend natural ways to reduce fever. The doctor's are the experts here and at 3 months of age, that's who I would ask. Don't believe a bunch of old wive's tales. Some of them do more harm than good. Every fever has a reason and the most important questions is "why the fever".
