Fertility and Breastfeeding
Does anyone know what the chances are of conceiving while breastfeeding when menstruation has not yet returned? I've heard different things...

I personally wouldn't chance it! My father and his sister are exactly 9 months apart, and according to his mother she hadn't began menstrating yet either! Have kids close together like that is tough so I say error on the side of caution, unless you want to get preganant again!

Breastfeeding as birth control is effective for the first 6 month (when you are feeding on demand around the clock and are not offering any bottles or solids) Since your peak fertility is about 2 weeks before getting your period you could get pregnant before your period returns.

I'm pretty sure that you ovulate before your period returns, so you could get pregnant and not know it for a while. I know that bf reduces your chances of getting pregnant, but it can happen, especially if your baby sleeps through the night or if you supplement any bottles. HTH! :o)

Been there, done that. Conceived baby #2 while breastfeeding 10 month old baby #1. Had not yet menstruated, but cleary had ovulated without knowing it. To top it off, we had many months of fertility treatments to conceive #1, but amazingly needed no such interventions to conceive #2. What a nice surprize! Good luck!

IT's the reason my best friend has babies a little less than 11 months apart!! Breast feeding is NOT contraception. And you can get pregnant before your first period returns.
