Feeding Solids - Greer,SC
I have a 7 month old son who has been eating stage 1 & 2 baby foods since he was 5 months old. He has recently begun to vomit if I feed him anything with any thicker consistency such as adding alot of rice cereal to the food. What shoud I do or is this normal? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. He used to tolerate thicker feeds really well.

do you need to add cereal to fill him up or are you just trying to work him up to people food? Either way, my friend has a lot of problems with her little girl and on thing she has found is slow is best. Do a little bit at a time. Like start off with 1/3 of what you're doing now maybe, then inch up little by little. By the way, I found the website, thanks

It's been several years since my son was that young. I dont recall him ever doing that. To me it seems his gag reflex is going strong. My son did have a problem with that. Had alot of problems brushing teeth and going to dentist.
However there could also be something lodged in his throat. I dont know much though My suggestion would be call the doctor.
Best of luck to you.

I'd try to cut back on the rice and just stick with the baby food. This was my son's eating schedule when he was that age...1/2 stage 2 fruit with about a tablespoon of cereal and formula in it to thin it as needed, lunch was 1/2 stage 2 fruit and 1/2 stage 2 veggie and the same for dinner. And anywhere between 4-6 oz of formula per bottle thoughout the day. I didn't start giving him the custard/dessert stuff till he was closer to 9 months old. There really isn't much value to any of those cereals either. They are more of a filler than anything. He is getting everything he needs from the breast or the bottle that cereal has to offer.
Good luck!

My first one did the same thing. I had to just back down with what I was doing. I am a pushy mom so it was and is hard with my second one. Just give him a little bit of food and then give him mainly formula. That worked for me. May be it will help you.

Listen to your baby! He is telling you that he is having a problem with the food. Maybe he is not ready for the thicker consistency, or maybe he is allergic to certain foods.
