Feedback on Dr. Askari, Dr. Crow, or Dr. Benzick (Pediatricians)

I'm looking for a new pediatrician in the Southlake / Grapevine area for my 6 week old son. I'm a new mom, so I'm looking for someone who will really provide me with alot of information about parenting, child development, etc and not make me feel stupid when I have a list of my own questions. But, I'm also looking for someone who will tell me the truth and not sugar-coat anything. Obviously, I also want a pediatrician who is great with children and gentle with them and will explain to me what is they are doing to my son before they do it! I've gotten feedback on most other pediatricians in the area, but haven't heard anything about Dr. Askari, Dr. Crow, or Dr. Benzick. Any feedback you can share is appreciated - positive or negative.

What can I do next?

Hi, I don't have any feedback on those doctors but I have one that I highly recommend in Grapevine, his name is Dr. Anthony Scott. He is located in the Grapevine Medical Center and he is definately does not sugar coat anything. I have taken my kids there for 5 years and I drive all the way from Highland Village to see him!

Our pedi is Dr. Askari -- we love her! She would definitely fit your needs and wants. I can't remember specifically what Dr. Crow's difference was?? We see Askari in Las Colinas and we were impressed with all the docs but just had a 'better' fit with Askari. I can't comment on Benzick but I would venture to guess that he/she would be an excellent doctor -- it's a great practice. I would suggest interviewing each and going with whomever is your best fit.

Good luck to you!!

My daughter has been going to Dr. Askari for two and a half years now. Dr. Askari is an older doctor with plenty of years of experience. She is very soft spoken and nice. When I first had my daughter, I was like you and had a ton of questions. I never felt rushed with her. She patiently with through each question with me. I really don't think she would sugar-coat anything with you. Every time I go, I get an informational sheet on what to expect at my daughter's particular age. The office atmosphere is rather boring (no kid friendly winnie the pooh type stuff in there), but the office staff has always been nice. I will say that the two big emergencies I had with my daughter (at five months she fell off a table while getting her picture taken and landed flat on her head and the other time when she dislocated her elbow) they calmed me down over the phone and quickly got my daughter in within an hour. You didn't mention Dr. Dickey, but she is apart of the group too. I really don't prefer her. She rushed me in and out both times I saw her. Hope this helps.

We have been with Dr. Askari since my oldest daughter was born and that was 6 years ago. I've got 3 kids now. The nurses and staff are nice at both locations. We use both the Irving and Grapevine offices. I usually get a call back within an hour when I call the nurse and leave a message with problems. They have sick appts on Saturday and often if you call in for sick appt you can get in the same day. I've noticed if you are on time for your appt. you usually don't have to wait, but if we are late we seem to wait forever. Maybe it's just a coincidence.
They have a handbook that is a great reference and at every well baby checkup they have handouts with good information. We love Dr. Askari, but she is also the only pediatrician we have ever known.

Hi! A frend of mine takes her sons to Dr. Benzick and really likes him. He's a nice guy and very smart. I think he'd be really gentle with the kids. My sister in law takes my nieces to Dr. Elizabeth Dickey and likes her because they always give a printout of expected developmental milestones and even advice on family issues. My SIL says some people are put off by her because she also advises that they go to church as a family, etc, but I think that's a great point. Good luck - you should go and interview pedis you might want to go to and get an idea for yourself - they do that all the time.

Dr. Crow is AWESOME!

We love Dr. Benzick! Luckily, we have only had to see him for well checks with my 20 month old son, but he always welcomes your questions and never makes you feel silly for asking them. Dr. Benzick is great with the kids and makes them feel very comfortable. We have other friends that see him as well and say the very same thing.
His staff is very friendly and helpful as well, and we love his nice new offices.
I would schedule a consultation with him to see what you think.

Do NOT see Dr. Crow. She did not think that infants could have allergies thus my son suffered for months with asthma and allergies before we switched pediatricians. We were at the doctor's office every single week (if not twice a week) with respiratory problems. She never put him on any antibiotics which he really needed at times. We hardly ever saw her either. We saw the PA's which weren't too good. Maybe she is good with older kids but I wouldn't trust my sweet new baby to be in her care.
I liked Dr. Tran in that office but the way the office is run wasn't optimal. Like I said, if your child is sick you most likely will not see the doctor, only a PA. I didn't like that because I'd have to re-explain his ongoing problems to everyone every time I went. Dr. Askari was nice enough but also brushed off my son's illness. Like someone else said, Dr. Dickey is not a very good doctor. There are plenty of good doctors in Grapevine/Southlake/Keller. I'd suggest looking into other practices.
