Hey Moms,

I need some recommendations on a good vacuum cleaner. Mine is broken so we are getting a new one on Saturday. Do you have one that is somewhere in the $70 range that you love?

My house is entirely carpeted and little things tend to appear all over the floor, so my vacuum cleaner has to work hard :-)

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the wonderful advice. As much as I would love one a that is higher dollar, we can't afford it right now. We just had my car fixed and I had to get a new cell phone because my other one quit working. Shortly after, my washing machine and vacuum cleaner died. So, we've waited for payday and we can finally get a washer and vacuum. I thought things like that only came in 3's!?!?

I have an Oreck XL and yes they are pricey but they are GREAT.

Do you mean $70 or $700? I've never seen a vac for $70

I don't really have an answer to your actual question...hehe. I don't know of any vacuums that I like in that price range. We tried 2-3 vacuums in that price range, some even around $200, and they only lasted a year or two and then broke. It was crazy.

So, we went and got an Oreck XL and love it. It IS pricey, but when we looked at what we were spending on vacuums, over a few years, we would have spent that much continually buying new ones. We paid more for it, and we've had it for about six years now, and we've had ZERO problems. It's been well worth the investment:-)

Back to your question, though, I have no idea...just wanted to mention that in case you ever wanted to save for a REALLY AWESOME vacuum. My mom and two sisters have ones too and love them;-)

Also have an Orek XL that I bought 13 years ago and has never needed a repair. They are expensive but it is one of my best investments. Works great and believe, we use it almost daily.i

I buy vacuums at costco. If they break, you can always return it. The last one I got was for $90 and works pretty well. When I went to buy, the guy at Costco asked what happened to my previous one, I told him it broke, he asked if I bought it at costco, I said yes, he said you can return it if you have receipt and luckily I had. It was a year old and I had paid $300 for it, so I went back and returned it.

I cleaned houses for a living, and always bought Bissell. They were under $60, and I love them. Last long, work well. And I like the vacuums that use bags. Bagless are a pain in the butt!

Target has a Dirt Devil for $45.00. I seen it at the store today; it's suppose to be a special buy. I have a Dirt Devil and love it. I also have a Eureka Lightspeed ($50) that uses a bag--and I love it too:)

I love my Eureka pet pal. I vacuum daily with 3 kids (2 girls-long hair!) a messy hubby, 2 cats and now only 2 dogs it is necessary. I have had it about a year and at the time I bought it we had 5 dogs. You would not believe the thing this vacuum finds in my carpet. I haven't had any problems with it although if you vacuum as much as I do I would suggest an extra filter...they are washable but take a few days to dry so waiting to vacuum again is a pain I only went through once-when we 1st got the thing. I got it at walmart for around that price I believe and if mine breaks I will be buying another one....LOVE this thing. I have had many more expensive brands and didn't do half the work this thing does. And it is light, easy enough that my 5 year old vacuums well with it-she was only 4 when 1st got it. Super easy to empty, use hose, clean filter (except drying time) Etc. My 75 year old grandma has one too and she has no problem bringing up and down the stairs in her split level home to sweep. Can't say enough good things about this one. You can't go wrong!
Sorry edit~ was reading down through... I have had a dirt devil didn't like it near as much. This is bagless so if you want a bag it is not good for you but do not feel at all this is a pain as 3boyz said. At the time I bought this i really wanted a dyson (yeah like I could ever afford one of those) after finding this I do not believe you need something that expensive. I have had a kirby- did a good job but heavy and diffecult to change attachments etc. I still think this thing picks up more dirt and crude. I have recommended this to my friends and they love theirs too. My bff has 2 kids and a gold retreive who sheds like noones business. She loves hers and because she works 50-60 hours a week only sweeps about once a week and her carpet looks great. My house is also all carpet and the livingroom hallways, kitchen and 2 out of 4 bedrooms are vacuumed every day-the other 2 bedrooms (where dogs dont sleep) and other rooms probably get it every other day atleast 3 times a week someone is in there. (Depends on who has chores in what room that day) we use this thing constantly! I also use it to sweep out the car. I am telling you can't go wrong.

If you need to buy a vacuum that works hard then you need to look in a significantly higher price range than $70. We bought a Bissell Velocity vacuum (don't know if they still make that model) cleaner about 4
years ago and the only reason it still runs is because my husband is handy and he has taken it apart several times to clean it, fix it, etc. We paid $130.00 for it back then. The next vacuum we will be getting is going to be a much higher quality (probably an Electrolux).
If your whole house is carpeted then you will want to look at vacuums that cost at least $100-150 but you'd probably be better off looking between $200-$250.
