Favorite Nurse Midwife, Susan Akins Moving Out of State

I am so sad. My nurse midwife and friend, Susan Akins, is moving to Santa Fe. After two babies and several years of service, I am going to have to replace her and I don't know how. She has been through soooo much with me and knows my entire history. Is there anyone on Mamasource who can recommend another female practitioner? Perhaps one of you also went to Susan and have already found someone else, perhaps at her same practice. Someone mentioned there is another RNM named Lindsey at the same practice.

I still can't believe we are losing her, but I wish her all the best.

What can I do next?

Thanks for all of your input and suggestions. I think I will try Lindsay, another CNM at Susan's practice. I've been hearing some really good things about her and at least she'll already have all my history on file.

I went with Kathleen Mayorga at Family Centered Maternity Care in Garland. She was amazing!!! There's also another CNM with her named Joyce Nelson who is great!

I work with Rose Floyd, CNM- who also practices out of Lovers Lane Birth Center. SHe is a most fantastic midwife and friend!
SHe has such a reverence for a womans ability to birth naturally. Ilove working with her!

My favorite midwife is Dinah Warranch. She has been at Lover's Lane Birthing Center for years...but she is moving to Richardson. She is absolutely wonderful! I am sorry to hear Susan Aiken is leaving. We need more wonderful Midwives around. There is also Becky Burpo that I hear people liking. And her partner is supposed to be good, too. Cannot remember her name.

Good luck!

Wait! There is a new Birthing Center in Rockwall/Heath. Real pretty place. I was invited to the open house a few months back. There is a midwife who was working at Lakepointe as a delivery nurse... I think her last name is Rose. She might be worth checking out...location and all....

Cherie Boetcher at Birth & Womens Center. She and the other midwives there are just wonderful. She has many, many years of experience and works closely with a group of female OB/Gyns. The birthing center is like 2 blocks from Baylor in downtown Dalas.

I miscarried my first child and everyone there was so supportive. And even though I was fine, Cherie gave me her home phone number and told me to call her if I just needed someone to talk to. (what doctor will do that?)

Anyways, once a month they have an "open house" where you go in and tour the center and meet the midwives and staff.

The number is ###-###-####.

Lindsay Stephens is a midwife with the same practice. She is fantastic. I used her for my second child. We had a difficult experience with the pregnancy. She not only tried to balance medical practice with my wishes, she was so very emotionally supportive as well. I visited with Susan a few times, but I saw Lindsay more often. I cannot say enough good things about Lindsay. We will be using her for our future children and my continuing care. Good luck in your search.

Becky Rupo has practice in Allen. She as well as the rest of her staff are amazing. Here is a website if you would like to check it out. http://allenbirthingcenter.com/

Good Luck
