Hello Moms out there, I need your help. This is the first year for celebrating Father's Day for my husband and I need ideas on what to get him. A little about my husband, He enjoys everything outdoors, such as fishing, hunting, golfing, etc. I was wondering what would be a great first father's day gift. I am clueless and was wondering what you ladies out there had for ideas. I am looking for it to be memorable and for this day be one of the best days ever for him. Thank you so much for all of your help!!!

It might be fun if you could get a couple of his buddies (in relationships) to have a golf morning and then have the couples meet up for a lunch or dinner.

In general just let him do some of his favorite things with some special people.

I found a great pic of my hubby and son and then bought a cute daddy-type frame. I know I got another gift as well, don't remember what. You said he enjoys golfing and unless you have a membership somewhere, a round of golf would probably be nice. You could even go so far as make the tee time for him and round up a few of his buddies. Then make a nice dinner for him.

One of the gifts I gave my husband for his first Father's Day was a photo of our son (then just a couple months old)holding a little sign I made that says "I love (heart) my Papa".

I saved the sign and took our son's photo again when he was 14 months old. I plan on doing this every year and my husband will end up with a great collection of photos that will show our son's progression. Actually, by next year we'll have a second child, so I might have to make another sign and this one might say "Me, too!".

Also last year, I gave my husband a toiletry bag with my son's photo on it. It was kinda spendy, but it was really great quality and he'll have it for decades, I'm sure. I think it has to be ordered through a photographer, but if you want to investigate, check out: http://www.bagsbybabycakes.com/. There be others out there that do this type of thing, but this is the one our photographer recommended.

Enjoy -- it'll be a special day no matter what!

When your baby is asleep (preferrably in a swing or something), paint the bottom of your baby's feet with paint that can go on fabric and won't wash out in the laundry. Press the footprints onto something (shirt, fishing hat, ???) So cute and proud daddy will love to wear it!

You could have your son's portrait taken somewhere and use Daddy's golfballs, fishing, hunting equiptment as props in the picture.

My husbands favorite fathers day present is a T shirt we made with the words "Best PaPa hands down" and my granddaughter's hand prints on each side. I did one hand at a time and cleaned it. Where your baby is so small it might be hard to do the handprints since they seem to ball up their fists when you touch their hands... you could do foot prints and have the saying "My son/daughter walks all over me" I also did hand prints last year with a poem I wrote about grandpa's and framed them for the grandpas and great grandpas.

My Grandpa
By S. Gose

My hands and feet are very small
I reach your knees, I’m not that tall
I look to see the love in your eyes
My grandpa who seems so very wise

My hands and feet may be very small
I reach your knees, I’m not that tall
You’ll teach me a lot being my best chum
I have a lot to learn in the years to come

My hands and feet may be very small
I reach your knees, I’m not that tall
Hold my hand & I’ll hold onto your finger
As we explore the world; come on, let’s not linger

For my husbands first Father's Day I got a canvas bag and did the footprints, handprints and used fabric markers to put the date on it and such. I also got one of those stepping stone kits and put her footprints in that. He loves the outdoors and gardening so I thought he would really like that.

We were just going through the closet and that bag "we" made was in there and it made him smile. He said he would never get rid of it.

I also made sure that I had donuts (he is a donut freak) and coffe ready for him. I let him sleep until he woke up on his own. And I filled up the canvas bad with "treats" that he loves. Then we did whatever he wanted to do for the day.

It may not be exciting or original, but he loved it.

****I read the photo idea from another poster above and thought it was a great idea. I just went out and got the mail and in it was a catalog from RedEnvelope.com and they had a the cutest "handprint frame" on the back page. It is made so you can put the photo in it and then have the child put his handprints on the matting around it and comes with an espresso frame. It is 39.95 and I am betting you could make it yourself for a lot less. I just had to pass it along :)

Hi A.,

Last year was my guy's first FD. We did the T-shirt thing. I put her footprints in the shape of a circle and the two handprints in the center. Then wrote 'Best Dadda in the World'. I thought it was okay, but he really loves it. This year I am going to get a picture of them holding hands (more of a close up) probably in black and white and have it inscribed "Never Let Go" Isn't that so cute!!! A friend of ours told me about that and her dad ended up passing away early in life, so it is a very treasured item!

I like your other ideas too though, any extra time he can get golfing I'm sure would be a good day for him!

Peace be with you,
Amanda

First of all, congrats to the both of you! For my hubby's first Father's Day, I took a picture of him with our twins and had it put on a cake at Sam's Club. Back then he worked Sunday - Wednesday, so I gave it to his boss and asked her to give it to him at breaktime. He loved it, and so did everyone else! Then at Current I found a T-Shirt that read "Fatherhood - the toughest job you'll ever love!" and it had a picture of a man's pair of workbooks and a baby's pair of shoes. He wears it with pride (and I see it is still in their catalog!)
Good luck!

We went really low-key for our first father's day, and took our baby boy with us for a nice relaxing break in a local park.

And I made a card with our son's hand print in it too. (We do that every year now).

The more pressure you put on yourself to make an Extra Special day, and the more pressure your husband feels to Really Enjoy it, the more likely it is to flop. (I forgot that this past Mother's Day and had a lousy day after anticipating something really special).

Keep it low-key and just enjoy the day, taking time to savor the ordinary wonderful moments as they arise.

Blessings :)

A couple years ago i gave my husband a certificate good towards a 1/2 hour lesson with the golf pro at our local golf course. Last year I made a tee time at the same golf course for him and his dad. I took care of the kids while they spent the morning on the golf course. If not golf maybe you could set up a little fishing expedition for him?

Hi,
One Father's day we had our kids put hand prints on a plain grey sweatshirt. My husband still wears it some time and our daughters are all 18 and older.

I got my husband a book for his 1st Father's Day. It was a childrens book about daddys. You could look for a similar childrens book that maybe has outdorr things in it that they do together (or plan to do together). Then you could give you child a crayon and let them "sign" their name in it =)

I used to work at Penney's and they had some really cute small novelity clocks by the jewelry department. the clock was set in a golf bag or had a fishing pole resting on the clock. It would look nice on a desk and not take up too much space and everytime he looks at it he would remember how much you love him.

One great gift for any fisherman is a "fish-print" tshirt. The Creative Kidstuff stores offer the real fish for the kids to paint then they transfer it to a t-shirt (that you bring with you). It is free and actually pretty cute! It's my dad that is a big fisherman and my first son has been making the tshirt for 4 years now (he's 5). My dad loves them and proudly wears all of them.
Obviously your baby is too young to paint the fish but maybe this year you could paint the fish then paint stamp babies foot along the bottom.

You know you're husband best. I would stick with one of his hobbies and get him something that way.
My husband's first Father's Day, I got him a new bike tire pump, traced my daughter's hand (she was 7 mths) on a card and signed her name in the hand. He still has that card hanging in his bike room to this day and she is 3 1/2 now!

Since the one year is too small to make anything....I took my hubby and son on his first Father's Day to a train station. My hubby loves trains and wants our son to love trains. I thought it was a much more special gift...taking him somewhere that he will never forget....than a gift that would collect dust or be forgotten. Does your hubby have any special interests? On his second Father's Day we painted a shirt with my son's hands. My hubby loves wearing it! Good luck!

What I did for my husband the first year he was a father was create a book. Every year I put my child's handprints, footprints, picture and a poem on a new page. The internet is loaded with nice poems. Now we have four books - one for each child - with their prints and pictures and poems for every year. The kids give dad the book every year with the updates and we go through the books as a family to see how the kids have grown. My husband loves it and so do the kids.

Good luck,
S.
