False Positive Pregnancy Test Experiences?

I think I got a false positive on a Clearblue Easy +/- pregnany test. I took it yesterday at lunch... It clearly showed a + within the 2-10 minute window. I took another one this morning and I don't really see a + ... if I really try I can see a super faint line but, if it is there at all, it is definitely lighter than yesterdays. I am on the Junel birth control pill (lo-estrin) and my cycle is really erratic. I take the pill faithfully at the same time every day.

I decided to take a test after I had a dream that I got 3 positive pregnancy tests (this happened when I was pregnant with my son!). I have other symptoms, all of which could be chalked up to the lo-estrin. I did some Googling and found that there have been reports of false positives with Clearblue tests. Just wondering what your experiences are. Thanks so much!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all your responses. I took a digital and a pink-line test and both were clearly negative. I have gyn appointment scheduled for next week to talk about changing from Junel and I will definitely ask her about the possibility of a cyst. Thanks again!

I just went through this this week! Not the same brand test and EVERYONE said that I must be pregnant. You may be pregnant, but I wasn't. I had 3 tests with a faint positive (yes, within the 2-10 min. ) and the digital tests were negative. I went to the doc yesterday though and it was negative. They did a blood test, which I am still waiting for, but I think it'll be negative.
Good luck if you're trying, and if you aren't, I hope you get the results that you want. :)

From my personal experience: you can get a false pregnancy result if you have a cyst on your ovary. Cysts a very common.... Even the insert in the preg test warns that cysts are known to interfere with the accuracy.

(In my case, I suspect the mini-pill (can't remember if it was Junel... I thought it was something that started with a J though) that I was on after birth/while breast feeding helped cause the cyst... When I first noticed the pain (from it), I had stopped the mini-pill. My doc put me back on it because birthcontrol pills are suppose to help cysts disappear--by shutting down the ovary and allowing the cyst to reabsorb--instead it grew substantially bigger. Just my experience...)

I have heard those blue dye tests are notorious for false positives, and esp after the waiting period is over. Always use the pink dye tests (like First Response). They are less likely to be confusing and are clearer to read.

I remember with one of my kids that the line was so faint that I had to hold it up to a light and even still, I was questioning whether I could see it or not. I would wait and take one when you first wake up in the morning, that is when your urine is at it's best to take the test. Good luck!!

I think you're pregnant congrats!!! so exciting! but I really recommend retaking the test with a stick from another brand. The first response ones worked great for me, and I tested on the first day I missed my period.
Good luck!

I had a positive test when I was three weeks pregnant with my son. It took another one a week later just for fun and the positive plus sign barley showed up! I was freaking out! Turned out I was pregnant :). The doctor that can happen when the lines don't show up as clear. You probley are pregnant. I would suggest taking another test (different brand like first response) asap. Hopefully you get whatever answer you want. Good luck! :)

For my son, who i am pregnant now with, i took a test and there was such a faint line, i thought i could be but wasnt' sure. i waited a week and tried again, and that time it was a strong pink line, and i knew for sure. I would say wait a week, and try again. Also make sure to do it first thing in the morning, as that's then the hormone is the highest. by waiting a week, you will allow the hormone level to build up and now for sure.

If you still get results that are mixed, i would go to the doctor and have them do a blood test, as that will tell them a much better if you are or aren't.

Get a digital test, so you do not have to try to see the line. If that is positive, call your doctor.

I have never heard of a false positive unless the test was taken wrong. Other wise no matter how faint the line it is still positive. When i was pregnant with my son the line was so faint i was unsure also. I went to the doc and sure enough i was pregnant. with my daughter i got 3 negatives and finally bought one that said either pregnant or not pregnant and it showed up as saying pregnant. If you think you are i would go to the doctor to have it confirmed. Its not good to keep taking the pill if you are. And Congrats if you are!

I have asked about this before. I took a pregnancy test after being 1 day late. It came up positive. About 4 hours later I started my "period" I called my doctor and they told me to go to the E.R. I WAS pregnant but had a miscarriage. They were shocked that an at home pregnancy test was able to pick up my HCG level, being that it was so low. The ER doctor told me that in order for a test to be positive it has to pick up HCG and that is only produced if you are pregnant. he said there is NO SUCH THING as a "False positive" but there have been false negative (when the HCG level is to low to track) Good luck!
