Facial Skin Care
Past 4 years I haven't had enough time to take care of my body/skin ... but recently I am motivated to fix that ... there are so many facial skin care products in the market, it is very confusing. I want to know which products have worked best for you and what skin care regimen do you find most convenient? I am in my thirties and have patchy skin (part oily, part dry) and I do not smoke.
I am looking for advise regarding products & brands .... when is toner necessary? is it necessary at all? what SPF is healthy and neccessary? should I use a cream cleanser or a gel cleanser? which brands are best? how would you rate elemis, dermalogica, arbonne, etc .... are there other popular/effective brands? is it okay to mix & match brands & products? Also, are there any homemade recipes for skin care that work for you? Thanks.
So What Happened?™
Ladies, thank you for your suggestions. I tried a few products and bought: Elemis skin buff (exfoliator) really wow!!, Dermalogica essential cleaning solution (creamy cleanser), Elizabeth Arden's perpetual moisture 24 cream (moisturizer), Neutrogena's Age shield with helioplex spf90 (sunblock). I've used some for only a couple of weeks, but can already notice a younger looking skin.
Also bought Elizabeth Arden's 8 hour cream (for days when skin feels extra dry), Elizabeth Arden's Visible Difference creme, Elizabeth Arden's Ceramide Moisture Capsules & Night Cream, and Dermalogica skin refining masque.

S.,
Hello. I know I'm really late to respond here. I think you have to find what works for you and if you have found that, then great. I know I have discovered oil free products work the best for me - Biore makes a great oil free line (can get at target or walmart). I have used so many different brands, but find that Biore cleaner, daily scrub and toner work the best for me and then I use Avon's ANEW self adjusting lotion. Since I have sensitive skin, I use a cleanser/scrub at night with lotion and in the morning I use a toner/astringent and lotion. Two easy steps twice a day. I have found my skin works better mixing products/brand. Although most consultants of any beauty brand will say not too mix brands, you just have to find the right mix for you. Just wanted share about the oil free products. Best of luck.

I recommend Mary Kay. I used Clinique for years, and then I tried MK. We have a 3 in 1 cleanser, day solution with SPF 25, night solution (I call it face lift in a bottle=), and age-fighting moisturizer. We have 5 types of foundation, with one for you! Check out my website for more info on the Miracle Set!

hi and I dont know if this will help but I work with a company from home that has great skin care products. Now a days you have to be careful because the products out their are using cheap ingredients that cause bad reactions especially if you have allergies or asthma. A lot of those ingredients will cause cancer. The company I work for is 100% guar. and its cheapier when you become a mamber and membership till end of this month is one time fee of just one $1 and $12. to renew every year after. They dont put any harsh chemicals in their products everything they use comes right from our natural environment. Better then loreal, maybeline, and estee lauder, or clinque but its much cheapier. If your interested in more info Pm me or go to my website at www.internetceomoms.com/kkortright
*about me; Work at home mom with 3 kids. Ryan 8, Shaun 5, and kaitlyn 3. All three have asthma and allergies and I a history of cancer and proud to say we are doing great thanks to my home biz.

I love Nicole Miller's product line. It works great, is eviromentaly friendly, and is less expensive than comparable product lines. I use her make-up, nail polish, and skin care regamine.
Which ever product line you choose you should use all the reccomended steps in the process it is necessary for the best results...including the toner and moisturizer. Also if you can find a product line that is all inclusive, meaning skin care and make-up you eliminate the risk of bad reactions between opposing chemicals. This is especially important if you are going to go with a convention product that is not organic, all natural, and enviromentaly friendly.
A very common example of this is some products contain formaldahyde, if you then apply a product with a formaldahyde releaser like quanterium 14, you are then allowing the formaldahyde to enter your system through you skin. This is bad because formaldehyde increases your risk of developing cancer as well as causing extreme irratation in the upper respitory system.
Never use any thing with less than spf 15, but the more the better up to spf 60, any thing higher is not possible.
I use the cleanser in the shower and when i brush my teeth at night, I have two bottles for my conveniec, one I keep next to the toothpaste, then the toner and moisterizer is in my bedside table with my vitamins, that way I will still use them even when I don't think about it until after I'm in bed and don't wan't to get out of bed again. I also have cotton balls in the table to use for the toner, and we have a garbage can near by that I can also throw the cotton balls away from the bed.
You should keep your make up and cleansers stored where kids and dogs can't get to it, so if you choose convetional products don't keep it in your side table.
You have to order nicole miller through Melaleuca, they have a money back gaurntee on the mebership (120 days), and thier products (60 days) so if you want to try them out they are a very safe bet financialy. If you want to try let me know and I'll get you started.

I don't know about these other brands, but don't go with Arbonne. They're a pseudo-natural company.
To determine the safety of any body care products, you can look them up online at http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.php?nothanks=1
Or if you want to look up a body care product type ("facial soap," facial moisturizer," etc.), you can do that there, too.
Have fun!

Girl, I know what you mean about falling off of the wagon of taking care of yourself!
I have fallen in love with DHC products - the parent company is in Japan, but in the U.S. they're based in San Francisco. It usually takes about 3 days to get a shipment (they use FedEx). They use natural products and my skin has never looked better. I used to use Mary Kay, which I liked (and sold), but after a while my skin started getting flaky and stuff. Once I switched to DHC I haven't had any more issues. Their website is dhc dot com.
I do use toner, which I like. I wouldn't say it's something that everyone "HAS" to use, though. It may be more of a personal preference for me.
As far as SPF's, they say that a 30 SPF is great. Also, info for everyone: I read something in the last month that said that everyone of EVERY skin hue should use suncreen! Even those with darker pigmentation (and therefore the most melanin/protection) only have the equivalent of maybe 13SPF, and that those people still are succeptible to skin damage and melanoma from sun exposure.

Hi S.. I just recently started using a skin care line that I like. I'm alos 30-something with oily skin. It's called Skinlogic by Beauti Control. I was introduced to the products at a Spa Party. We had fun while learning about our skin. Not sure if you're in the Little Rock area, but here's the name, number and e-mail address of the lady that conducted the spa. She's a blast! I am partial to Arbonne because I have seen so many wonderful results and also I do have to confess that I sell it and have for over 5 years. I do the whole re9 anti-aging system with 7 steps. It is made paraben free, 100% botanically based with herbs. It has 9 key anti-aging ingredients one of those being Vitamin C which is crucial to repairing, reversing and correcting the aging process. I will be 46 in July and only look around 37. The day cream does have Spf in it. The toner is important because it removes the rest of your makeup and balances the skin. You do get a wash, toner, face lift, facial serum, day cream eye cream and night cream. It only takes about 2 minutes to apply. The whole system lasts for about 6 months and you can get a discount card and pay alot less. If you want to know more feel free to email me at ____@____.com
