Facets Film Camp

Hello fellow kid wranglers! Quick question. As a way to get my oldest son a little excited about living in this new city and making new friends, we looked up some camps to do for the summer and came across one at, I think, Facets Multimedia. Anyone heard of it? Anyways, they have this Young Chicago Critics Movie Camp. Campers learn basically the ins and outs of film and its production and create their very own movie. Of course, a 7 year old's reaction to this is "COOL!" and won't stop talking about it. It sounds like a really fun and rewarding camp, but I just wanted to check-in with other moms to hear some reviews about the camp or Facets. Feel free to pass this info. about the camp along or get your children interested, so maybe we can get together before the camp starts, www.cicff.org!

My son is too little for camp, but my husband has taken classes through Facets and truly enjoyed them and felt they were worth the money. I used to work with the Facets sales people and they are very dedicated to the art of film. It should be a great experience for your son.

Hi K.,

Facets is just wonderful and has been a cultural institution for years. I remember when they moved to their present building, like a zillion years ago, and it seemed so outre, barely a neighborhood you would go to at night! Now of course it is great and the kids' camp has gotten raves from everyone I know who has gone. (My kids didn't because we lived too far north to schlep.) I also highly recommend Actors' Gym, at the northeast end of Evanston. They teach circus skills and do a show at the end of the term. My 23-yr-old klutz still loves to juggle and ride a unicycle! Best summer camp he ever did! Also consider Y camps and of course good old Chicago Park District.

Good luck and enjoy Chicago -- I just married and moved to Portland -- it is beautiful and I am wildly in love, but I miss my hometown!

Hi K.,
Facets is a well established cultural institution here in Chicago and highly regarded in the art film community. I've never done any of the camps there but I'm sure they are awesome. The owners are good people as well. I say go for it! And welcome to Chicago!

My 11 year old son will be attending as well. We are new to it, but truly looking forward to the experience.

SMILE On!

K.,
This camp sounds great! I've been looking for something for my son to do this summer. He is 6 but will be 7 in October. I'm going to check it out on the internet. If we join up, I'll let you know.
