Eyebrows - Question About Electrolysis

Hi Moms,

I have bushy eyebrows and have plucked since I was young. Not a uni-brow but not far from it.

My eyebrows are taking on a mind of their own it seems as I get older. Weird long ones, white ones, and these wiry ones that stick straight out.

I am interested in electrolysis - wondering how others have found it.

I have plucked and waxed mine. Both work but I'd love something more permanent.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the info on Laser Hair removal and that it successfully worked on a unibrow (my son has my eyebrows so this is good news!).

And I will try the gel. Great idea.

The hair thinning closer to menopause .. thanks for that reminder too. Good point.

I've had electrolysis for chin hair. It works, but I would be careful doing your eyebrows, because if you don't like the shape or if they are over-plucked/electrolysized, you will regret it. If you start pulling out every awkward hair, you won't have much left.

I have fairly thick brows, and I just trim the straggly or overly long ones. If one sticks straight out or is grey or too long, just clip it.

Eyebrows might start thinning out during menopause - so be careful with what you remove now.
Plucking works well for me - and others like threading (another way to pull out the offending hairs).
I've never tried electrolysis.
Laser hair removal (at least for dark hair - might not work for white/grey hair) might work - it worked wonders when I had it done on my legs.

Laser hair removal is your best bet! I had that done for my son who has a unibrow. No more unibrow.

For shaping the rest of your eyebrows, try electrolysis for that.

I have my eyebrows threaded and I also use an eyebrow gel and brush for a neat, controlled look. I wouldn't personally want electrolysis so close to my eyes . . . the other poster also has a point that menopause/age issues can cause thinning eyebrows. Permanently removing eyebrow hair may seem like a good idea now, but not so much in the future.

Good luck.

Yes...I agree with the others about thinning eyebrows in menopause.

Threading is a good option and quite a few places now offer it. Try indian, middle eastern salons.

I would be careful with a permanent solution. I remember in the 70's everyone wanted thin brows, along with a tear drop. Today, I see color pencils and permanent eye make up to fill in the unwanted gaps. I use a small facial shaver with a guard to clip the unwanted longer brows along with a credit card to make a straight line while plucking. I kind of press the card into my brow line to make an indent and pluck everything under that.

My mother introduced me to electrolysis for unwanted facial hair when I was a teen in the 1970s-early 1980s, and it has been my go-to since then. It seems much cheaper than laser hair removal, and while I do need to go for periodic visits (especially now, with changing hormones of peri-menopause), it is permanent. I do not think that the brows being near the eyes is really significant--well-trained electrolysis professionals won't be 'missing' and inserting the electrode in the eye. Yes, it will hurt, however in my view, it can't possibly hurt more than having the upper lip done! It is harder to find electrolysis, however. Anyway, good luck with it!
