Hi C.,
I'm retired from a college medical school ophthalmology department. I would highly recommend you get a second opinion from a doctor - pediatric ophthalmologist - at a medical school. They really know the best and latest information about eye problems.

Eye tubes, or shunts are a treatment for a vision condition called "Glaucoma" where the fluid pressure inside the eye builds up. It will cause blindness if not corrected. Get a second opinion from a pediatric ophthalmologist.
Good luck, and ask as many questions as you can. Research glaucoma on the web, and all the standard treatments for kids. Don't be intimidated, be informed. Here is a link I thought was good: http://www.childrensmemorial.org/depts/ophthalmology/chil...

HI C.! DONT READ MY MAIL TO OFTEN SO HOPEFULLY THIS WILL HELP. BUT MY SON HAD THE EYE PROCEDURE DONE TWICE! BUT HE WAS BORN w/THE GOOPY EYES & HE IS NOW 21 MTHS OLD. IF THE SECOND PROCEDURE DIDNT WORK THEN THEY WERE GOING TO PUT TUBES IT. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WONT TRY ANOTHER PROBEING & IT TOOK ABOUT 2 WEEKS FOR IT TO ACTUALLY CLEAR UP AFTER THE SECOND PROCEDURE & NOW IT ONLY ACTS UP WHEN HE HAS A COLD BUT NOTHING LIKE IT WAS. HE WOULD WAKE UP & NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO OPEN HIS EYES TILL I PUT A WARM WASH CLOTH TO SOFTEN IT UP. BUT IF ANYTHING MOST DEF. GET A SECOND OPINION FROM WHAT I HAVE LEARNED THEY JUST DONT DO TUBES FOR EYES IF THEY DONT HAVE TO. GOOD LUCK
