Eye Makeup That Stays Put?

Ladies, I have been looking for years with no success - I need to find eyeliner and mascara that DOES NOT smear! I haven't tried department store stuff yet just because of the cost, but I'm willing to pay more if it will stay where I put it! I'm a contact lens wearer and I don't know if it smears because of the solution I use, but I can't think of any other reason why my makeup smears so quickly. I am constantly fighting bags under my eyes and the smearing doesn't help. Any suggestions or thoughts? I'm just feeling so old looking these days (I turn 37 in April) and I'd like to find something that doesn't add to the old lady look! Thanks so much!:)

Hi D.,
I am 48 and for years I use Avon wash-off waterproof mascara and need to remove it with Ponds Cold cream at night to get it to budge. I buy them for about $2 each when they go on sale once a year and then I buy 10 of them (normal price is $6.50). I wipe the brush each morning on a tissue before applying to get no clumps, and replace the tube once a month. Right now they have some mini ones on sale at Avon.com for 99 cents, so it would be easy to try. The part number for black is 583-377, Black/Brown 583-400,
Navy 583-415, Violet 583-420. I get mine from a woman at work who sells Avon.

I also had that problem (plus discovering on the Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database that my eye makeup is quite toxic), so I looked for a less toxic alternative that also turned out to be non-smudgy. I bought the Almay One-coat Nourishing Mascara in Blackest Black, I really like it, it isn't waterproof but stays on really well even when damp. For eye liner I use L'oreal HIP (high intensity pigments) and I find it less smudgy than other eye liners I tried.

Hi Again D.
I use NYC waterproof eyeliner-sold in drug stores--CVS Etc. Very inexpensive.
Stays put very well. Also-suggestion to save the bank on mascara-I am one of those people who have used Maybelline for a million years. To help it stay put in tough situations-use a basecoat of regular great lash and top off with a coat of waterproof.
This makes it easier to remove but helps it stay put. I wear makeup every day-but believe in putting it on once and be done..no time for touch ups. Too busy!
Good luck

Hi D., I am sorry you are having this persistent issue with eye makeup. You may be exactly right about your contact lens cleaner/lubricant being the culprit. However, I did have one other thought - have you tried any all-natural brands yet? I am a Shaklee distributor, and all of our skin care and cosmetic products are all-natural. You can go to my web site at www.emilytaft.com and check them out. Click into "Beauty" on the left-hand menu on the Home Page to get started. There is a 100% guarantee with any Shaklee products as long as you call the company within 60 days of purchase to tell them you are not satisfied with the product -- they will refund your purchase price as well as the tax -- they do not refund your S&H. You have nothing to lose. If it is one of the other ingredients in your eye makeup that is the problem, switching to an all-natural brand might be a solution -- just a thought. I am not soliciting you but am trying to offer a solution to your ongoing issue that you have asked for suggestions about. Feel free to contact me with any questions - ###-###-#### ____@____.com Best Wishes with solving your dilemma! E. Taft

You should try Revlon's color stay eye liner. I use it and I am hooked. Now towards the end of the day, I won't lie, you'll have some smearing in the inside corners of your eyes but other than that, I think it works great and it's not super expensive either.

Good luck, good make up is hard to find.

One suggestion I can make regardless of the type/brand of makeup you end up choosing. I also have this problem so I no longer put any eye makeup on my bottom lid: no eyeliner or mascara on the bottom (I don't know if you do this already). I only line the top lid and put mascara on the top. It prevents the undereye from smearing (the top tends to smear much less) so you can rub your eye if you need to with out as much worry.

If it helps, this style of applying makeup is also more in style now.

I am a make-up artist and I have to recommend Jane Iredale water resistant black ice mascara. However it comes in 5 shades and a tube that allows you to get all of it off. A couple of things anyone can call their make-up "healthy" or "mineral" these names are not regulated, however most brands that claim to be are not. Mascara and eye liner cannot legally be called "water proof". Iredale make-up is the only make-up that contains 0 hazard under all scientific hazardous websites for cosmetics (This includes all other mineral lines). Also it stays and you don't need any cream to take it off just wash your face (although they have an amazing make-up remover called a magic mitt) Just a reminder, mascara is only considered healthy for 6 weeks to 2 months, anything over that needs to be tossed!!!

I don't know about eyeliner but I absolutely LOVE Clinique lash power mascara long-wearing formula. It costs about $17 and is well worth it. It is water proof and smudge proof and lasts all day and night. The best part is that it washes off easily with warm water and soap! I wore it throughtout my weddingmoon in the Bahamas and it never budged in the 98 degree heat or while swimming in the ocean or snorkeling or in the pool! Then it would just wash right off at night! It's amazeing! I highly recommend it. Good luck in your search!

Hi D.-- I am a 37 yo mother of 4 boys and I completely understand the feeling old looking. I use Mary Kay I love it!!! I have been using it on and off for years stopped because money was tight. Then I started again and some of the products have helped tremendously. Their mascara I use does not run at all and I wear contact also. I can get you some to try, and if you like it you can pay me for it and if not you can send it back to me. That way it will cost you nothing. you can send me a private email if you are interested.

Hi, My greatest "eye-find" in the past few years is "bare canvas" paint by M.A.C.
You apply it on your eye lids before anything else and then eye shadows and liners stay put for hours. It's fantastic! I've got combination skin and a couple of years ago I switched to Estee Lauder cleansers. They're certainly more expensive but they work best for me. The eye moisturizer has made a huge difference in getting rid of any puffiness or darkness under my eyes. Good luck.

oh my gosh, this is an easy one! Arbonne has the best make up I've ever used. It is very reasonably priced as well. I put on my make up at 6am and don't touch it up even if I have a meeting in the evening. It has a flawless, airbrushed look to it, they even have a make up primer that makes your face feel like silk! My friend and celebrity make up artist Krista Embry from Kentucky uses only Arbonne on her clients! That is a great testimonial to these products since she can choose make up and skin care from companies that only sell to make up artists.
I'm not sure where you live, but I would be happy to give you a Free make up consultation in a one on one setting. Tell you the colors that work for you and let you know how much it will cost to have what you need to make you look great and feel great! My friend was amazed when she actually tried the mascara finally (she has never been able to wear it because her eyes would get weepy and red since she was a teenager) She is sold on Arbonne now and you can actually see how pretty she is behind her glasses. I hope to hear from you, this is the fun part of my mom owned business. You can check me out on this site under mom owned businesses and find the discount I offer for people on this site. L.

I use bare minerals for it. It is great and stays put even when I'm crying or the girls are putting wet hands on my face. You can also sleep in it!

Hi D., I swear by Maybelline's Great Lash in the pink and aqua bottle. I have used this same brand for 20+ years and just love it. I've tried the expensive department store brands and none compare! I even sold cosmetics for a few years (I wont mention the name, but it was along the tuperware type sales but for makeup) and still - I wouldn't wear the company's mascara - although I tried it - I still wore Maybellines. Plus a lot of times, you can find it at Walmart 2 for 1. Goodluck in your search! J.

Prescriptives is sold in Macy's and those types of places. I think they are great. They have a waterproof mascara that I wouldn't trade for anything. I sleep in it and it is only slightly dark under my eyes in the morning. I can go swimming with it on without a problem. The best eye makeup remover that I've ever found for waterproof mascara, and trust me I have tried them all, is Chanel's. It is called bi-phase (or dual-phase, they changed the name years ago and I can't remember which is the new name and which is the old). It isn't cheap but it works great on waterproof mascara and is not greasy. I was also having a hard time keeping eye shadow in place, but Prescriptives makes a cream shadow/eyeshadow base that helps a lot. It is in a little pot and you put it on with your finger. I hope this helps. After years of surfing and being in water I am very particular about waterproof mascara, Prescriptives is great. Good luck, K.

Well I'm a 40 yr old woman who has been where you are and I've tried hundreds of different products. The best product I now own and will not use anything else on my face for makeup is Bare Minerals/Bare essentials and I buy it through QVC.com It is the best. Its good for your skin, it stays put, you can sleep in it and it will still be there. the eye liner and mascara are great. But I love the shodows and the whole product line. Its all made of minerals and its wonderful. I swear by it.
